Thunderbeats – 4 Minutes Ago [Moscow] – New LPFrom Moscow, its the latest recordings from The Thunderbeats, originally released in Russia in 2023 on reel to reel only!, chugging into the States on the 12" long playing platter, they got the songs and the chops and gear to back them up, sounding like November 1966, drenched in electric guitar and organ fuzz, often headed for 1967 like they'd lived through Spring 1966 to hear "Eight Miles High," other times pulling back like the crash of an ocean

From Moscow, it’s the latest recordings from The Thunderbeats, originally released in Russia in 2023 on reel-to-reel only!, chugging into the States on the 12" long-playing platter, they got the songs and the chops and gear to back them up, sounding like November 1966, drenched in electric guitar and organ fuzz, often headed for 1967 like they'd lived through Spring 1966 to hear "Eight Miles High," other times pulling back like the crash of an ocean wave into the instrumental surf/freak out/espionage of "Misanthrope," but mostly focused on the 2-3 minute songs that sound like circa 1966, like they'd clearly been making songs since 1961, spent years listening to records by the Animals and the Sonics and were now hanging out in L.A. with the Byrds, Love, and the Standells, getting stoned and jaded, but still retaining some of the clear-eyed probity of those glory days in the garage.  -- winch

— Winch

Yeah, it's just crazy...crazy great!...
....maybe some groups try too hard to have that 60s sound (but to be honest, so many I love)
...some take the 1960s and do their own thing with it (which is usually pretty great)
...meanwhile, it's like Thunderbeats are from the 1960s!
....Maybe, it's that they are older and actually have memories from the 1960s
...maybe it's that they are from Russia—I'm not sure I can explain what I mean by that, but maybe it's easier to enter a time machine in a place like Moscow.
...But it's like I can imagine them starting the band as young teenagers circa 1958 ....getting it together in a garage circa 1962, rolling out the hot rod to make room...and then moving to California and blasting into the scene circa 1965!

"It wasn't very large There was just enough room to cram the drums In the corner over by the Dodge It was a fifty-four With a mashed up door And a cheesy, little amp With a sign on the front said, "Fender Champ" And a second hand guitar It was a Stratocaster with a whammy bar We could jam in Joe's garage His mama was screamin' His dad was mad We was playin' the same old song In the afternoon and sometimes we would Play it all night long It was all we knew and easy too So, we wouldn't get it wrong Down in Joe's garage We didn't have no dope or LSD But a couple a-quarts a-beer Would fix it so the intonation Would not offend your ear And the same old chords goin' over and over Became a symphony We could play it again and again and again 'Cause it sounded good to me One more time We could jam in Joe's garage His mama was screamin' "Turn it down!" We was playing the same old song In the afternoon and sometimes we would Play it all night long It was all we knew and easy too So, we wouldn't get it wrong Even if you played it on a saxophone We thought we was pretty good We talked about keepin' the band together And we figured that we should 'Cause about this time we was gettin' the eye From the girls in the neighborhood They'd all come over and dance around like So, we picked out a stupid name Had some cards printed up for a couple a-bucks And we was on our way to fame Got matching suits and Beatle boots And a sign on the back of the car And we was ready to work in a go-go bar People seemed to like our song They got up and danced and made a lotta noise And it wasn't 'fore very long A guy from a company we can't name Said we oughta take his pen And sign on the line for a real good time But he didn't tell us when These good times would be somethin' That was really happenin' So, the band broke up Guess you only get one chance in life To play a song that goes like Turn it down! Turn it down! I have children sleeping here Don't you boys know any nice songs? Well, the years was rollin' by, yeah Heavy metal and glitter rock Had caught the public eye, yeah Snotty boys with lipstick on Was really flyin' high, yeah And then they got that disco thing And new wave came along And all of a sudden I thought the time Had come for that old song We used to play in Joe's garage."

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Fun with a late blooming omega
Format: Kindle
I like this book. The story is fun, cute, and sexy. There's just a little drama, some excellent, steamy scenes, and a fairly good relationship building storyline. I especially like how all the main characters are a bit older than the usual 20 somethings I tend to see in this kind of book. Having said that, I wish there were more descriptions of the places, as well as the food in the fancy restaurant. I enjoyed the cocktails at the club, so I missed that kind of detail when Gray took Madison on a dinner date. I also wish there had been more interaction between Lucas and Madison, and Lucas and Rian. It felt a bit lopsided, with a focus on Rian, Madison, and Gray. I wish it had been proofread - there are a lot of typos, but nothing too distracting.
