A long winter can lend a special magic to the experience of waiting for things to come up. I felt it this year as persistent chilly temperatures led to a very slow start for my seedlings. When my cold-weather sprouts showed their faces, each radish felt very precious. Also the loamy soil in the tiny strip of yard at my new house turned out to be lively with helpful pink worms. These are some of the things came to the surface for me when I decided to create a garden-themed paper diorama scene.
