The Whisky Stones Set Ultimate Gift is the ideal offering for any discerning pure whisky lover who appreciates tradition as much as the beauty of the tasting ritual. Presented in an elegant wooden box with a heritage design, these 9 finely polished soapstone chilling rocks use an ancient technology rooted in Scandinavian tradition: their exceptional thermal capacity allows them to absorb cold in the freezer and then release it into your glass, chilling your whisky without any dilution. Beyond the stones themselves, the set includes a fabric pouch for storage and practical ice tongs for handling. Two versions to choose from: the Liam Set with a spirits pourer for precise serving directly from the bottle, or the Cormac Set with a Jigger measuring glass for precisely measuring your quantities according to the best mixology standards. The perfect gift for birthdays, Father's Day, or any occasion that deserves to be celebrated properly.

Liam Set
+ Spirits Pourer
Precise serving directly from the bottle The pourer fits directly onto the neck of the whisky bottle for perfectly controlled, drop-by-drop serving. Ideal for enthusiasts who enjoy pouring their own measure and appreciate the precise gesture of a sommelier. Prevents splashes and allows for expert eye-level dosing.
Cormac Set
+ Jigger Measuring Glass
Precise measurement for the mixologist The Jigger measuring glass allows you to precisely measure your whisky quantities according to professional standards (generally 4-5 cl). Ideal for connoisseurs who appreciate precise dosing, cocktail enthusiasts who follow recipes, or those who monitor their consumption carefully.

Soapstone — Ancient Scandinavian Tradition

Used since antiquity by Scandinavian and Alpine peoples for thermal preservation, soapstone (or steatite) is a natural metamorphic rock of very high density, composed mainly of compact talc. Its remarkable characteristic: an exceptional thermal capacity that allows it to absorb and release heat or cold with greater efficiency than most natural materials.

Specifically, a soapstone placed in the freezer at -18°C accumulates a considerable cold reserve. Upon contact with your whisky, it gradually releases this cold for 10 to 15 minutes, chilling the drink without introducing water or altering its aromas. This is the ancient traditional solution to the problem of dilution by classic ice cubes.

The soapstones are finely hand-polished to provide a smooth, non-abrasive surface, completely inert in contact with spirits. Each stone is unique with its characteristic grain and texture of natural rock — you receive 9 stones with slightly different shades of gray that reflect the mineral authenticity of the material.

The set that carries on a tradition
To offer the Whisky Stones Set is to offer much more than an accessory — it is to transmit a millennia-old tradition of the art of tasting. Soapstones have been used since antiquity by Northern peoples to regulate the temperature of food and drinks: stones heated by fire to cook meat, stones cooled in winter to preserve drinks. Today, this ancient tradition is making a comeback among whisky enthusiasts looking for a noble alternative to water ice cubes — the latter inevitably diluting quality whisky and altering what the master distiller has spent years perfecting. The recipient of this set will receive not only a functional object but also the accompanying heritage know-how, the ritual of placing the stones in the freezer, the precious moment when they slide them into their glass with the provided tongs, the observation of condensation forming on their surface. This is the gift that will be used every week and quickly becomes a natural companion for the recipient's moments of relaxation.

How to use whisky stones in 4 steps

1
Place the stones in the freezer Before each use, place the 9 soapstones in their fabric pouch in the freezer for at least 3 to 4 hours. The pouch prevents frost from forming on the stones and makes them easier to retrieve. For regular use, keep them permanently in the freezer in their pouch.
2
Grip with the ice tongs Always use the provided ice tongs to grip the stones and place them in the glass. The tongs prevent any contact with fingers (heat transfer, hygiene) and offer a precise and refined gesture.
3
Serve your whisky Place 2 to 3 soapstones in your glass, then pour your whisky (use the pourer from the Liam Set for precision, or the Jigger from the Cormac Set for exact measurement). The stones immediately begin to release their cold upon contact with the whisky.
4
Retrieve, wash, and return to the freezer After tasting, retrieve the stones with the tongs, rinse them with lukewarm water (never boiling water, thermal shock), dry completely with a clean cloth, and replace them in their pouch in the freezer for the next use. They will be ready in 3-4 hours.

Soapstone Chilling Rocks or Stainless Steel Ice Cubes: Which to Choose?

Atelier Atypique offers two complementary solutions for cooling without dilution.

Criterion Whisky Stones Stainless Steel Ice Cubes
Material Natural soapstone (steatite) Industrial stainless steel
Origin Ancient Scandinavian tradition Modern contemporary innovation
Aesthetics Natural, authentic, raw Geometric, modern, sleek
Shape Small irregular polished stones Uniform 2.5 × 2.5 cm cubes
Quantity 9 stones in the set Pack of 4, 6, or 8 cubes to choose from
Packaging Wooden box + pouch + tongs + pourer/jigger Pack + tongs included
Positioning Complete prestige gift set Modern functional accessory
Target audience Gift for whisky enthusiast Daily personal use

Stainless Steel Ice Cubes + Whisky Stones: the ideal combination? The two products are perfectly complementary rather than competing. Many dedicated tasting enthusiasts own both for distinct uses. Stainless Steel Ice Cubes: quick daily personal use, more intense chilling thanks to the steel (slightly higher thermal capacity), modern geometric aesthetic for the contemporary bar. Whisky Stones: ceremonial and traditional use, authentic natural aesthetic for heritage settings and classic bar-libraries, ancient cultural dimension that adds meaning to the tasting moment. Soapstone also offers a more gradual and gentle release of cold than stainless steel — preferable for whiskies with delicate profiles where subtle cooling is sought rather than a marked thermal shock.

Detailed contents of the set

  • 9 natural, finely polished soapstone whisky stones
  • 1 fabric pouch for storage and freezer preservation
  • 1 metal ice tong for hygienic handling

    • Special spirits pourer (Liam Set)
    • Jigger measuring glass (Cormac Set)

Connoisseur tips for making the most of soapstone chilling rocks. A few tips from experienced enthusiasts. Permanent freezer storage: only take out the stones for tasting, then immediately return them to the freezer — this ensures they are always ready for spontaneous cravings. Optimal number of stones: 2 to 3 stones per standard whisky glass (4-6 cl) are enough for ideal progressive cooling. More stones accelerate cooling but can over-chill the whisky, temporarily masking its aromas (whisky expresses itself better at 12-16°C than at 8°C). Pre-chill the glass: place your tumbler glass in the freezer 10 minutes before serving to multiply the effectiveness of the stones. Pairing with good whisky: for peated Islay single malts and powerful bourbons, 3 stones in a pre-chilled glass are the perfect pairing. For delicate white or Japanese whiskies, only 2 stones are enough. Combination with Stainless Steel Ice Cubes: for equipped enthusiasts, alternating use depending on the whiskies (steel for sharp cooling, stone for gentle progression) allows adapting the experience to the profile of each distillate.

Precautions for using soapstone. Soapstone is a noble natural material that requires a few simple precautions. Thermal shock: never place stones coming out of the freezer into a hot glass (e.g., coming out of the dishwasher), and vice versa — a significant temperature difference can crack the stone over time. Boiling water prohibited: never wash soapstone with boiling water, use lukewarm water exclusively. Mechanical shocks: although dense, soapstone remains fragile to strong impacts — avoid hitting it against the rim of the glass when serving, and handle with the provided tongs. Bare-hand handling prohibited: stones coming out of the freezer are at very low temperatures (-18°C), direct contact can cause a cold burn sensation on damp skin or even slight frostbite. Always use tongs. Dishwasher not recommended: harsh detergents and high temperatures can alter the polished surface of the stones and the wooden box over several cycles. Prefer gentle manual washing with lukewarm water.

The ultimate gift for whisky lovers. The Whisky Stone Set is one of our most popular and frequently gifted items all year round. Its presentation in an elegant wooden box ready for gifting simplifies the gesture — no need for additional gift wrapping, the box is its own gift box. For whom is it intended? All pure whisky enthusiasts (single malt, bourbon, aged rum), new fathers discovering the pleasures of tasting, experienced connoisseurs who have not yet explored the tradition of soapstone, and post-stainless steel ice cube enthusiasts who want to complete their cooling arsenal. Which set to choose? The Liam Set (with pourer) is suitable for traditional enthusiasts who like to accurately pour their own measure. The Cormac Set (with Jigger) appeals to mixology enthusiasts who appreciate precise measurement and strict dosing. Preferred occasions: birthdays, Father's Day, retirement parties, Christmas, high-end corporate gifts, wedding anniversaries for couples who enjoy spirits. For an absolute combined gift, pair the set with a bottle of single malt or a beautiful crystal tumbler for a complete experience right out of the box.

Frequently asked questions

What is soapstone and why is it used for whisky?
Soapstone (or steatite) is a natural metamorphic rock composed mainly of compact talc, used since antiquity by Scandinavian and Alpine peoples for thermal preservation. Its remarkable characteristic is its exceptional thermal capacity — it absorbs and releases cold (or heat) with greater efficiency than most natural materials. For whisky, this property is valuable: once placed in the freezer, soapstone accumulates a considerable reservoir of cold which it gradually releases into your glass for 10 to 15 minutes, cooling the whisky without any dilution. This is the ancestral traditional solution to the major problem of classic water ice cubes which inevitably dilute quality spirits.
What is the difference between the Liam Set and the Cormac Set?
Both sets are identical in main content (wooden box + 9 soapstone cubes + fabric pouch + ice tongs) and differ only in their bonus accessory. The Liam Set includes a special spirits pourer that fits directly onto the neck of the whisky bottle — ideal for traditional enthusiasts who like to pour their own measure with a precise and expert gesture. The Cormac Set includes a Jigger measuring glass which allows precise measurement of quantities according to professional standards (usually 4-5 cl) — ideal for meticulous enthusiasts, mixology enthusiasts who follow cocktail recipes, or those who monitor their consumption carefully. Choose according to the recipient's profile.
How long do the stones stay cold in the glass?
Soapstone cubes taken from the freezer (-18°C) retain their cooling effect for 10 to 15 minutes in the glass, depending on several factors: ambient temperature (the higher it is, the faster the effect diminishes), initial glass temperature (pre-cooled glass extends the effect), number of stones used (2 vs 3), and volume of whisky. For a slow tasting that lasts 20-30 minutes, this may be sufficient due to tasting in small sips. For a longer tasting, you can replace a lukewarm stone with another cold stone taken from the freezer — the tongs allow the operation without direct handling. Comparison with Stainless Steel Ice Cubes: soapstone offers a slightly more gradual and gentle release of cold than stainless steel, which may be preferable for whiskies with delicate profiles.
How many stones should be used in a glass?
The standard use is 2 to 3 soapstone cubes per glass of 4-6 cl whisky. 2 stones are suitable for a subtle and gradual cooling, ideal for whiskies with delicate profiles (white whiskies, light Japanese, gentle Speyside single malts). 3 stones are suitable for a more pronounced cooling, ideal for powerful whiskies (peated Islay single malts, strong bourbons, structured agricole rums). You can experiment according to your personal taste. More stones? Beyond 3 stones, cooling becomes excessive and can mask the aromas of the whisky, which express themselves better between 12-16°C than at 8°C. The aromatic sensation is diminished at very low temperatures. With 9 stones in the set, you can therefore serve 3 glasses simultaneously (with 3 stones each).
What is the difference between these and Atelier Atypique's Stainless Steel Ice Cubes?
Both products address the same need (cooling whisky without dilution) but with complementary approaches. Stainless Steel Ice Cubes are industrial stainless steel cubes with a modern geometric aesthetic, sold in simple packs (4, 6 or 8 pieces). Modern and functional approach, ideal for daily personal use and contemporary bars. Whisky Stones are natural soapstone cubes with an authentic raw aesthetic, presented in a wooden box with bonus accessories (pouch, tongs, pourer or jigger). Ancestral tradition and prestige gift approach, ideal for gifting and for heritage ambiances. Thermal performance: steel offers a slightly sharper cooling, stone a more gradual and gentle release. Dedicated enthusiasts often own both to adapt the experience to the profile of each whisky.
How to clean and maintain soapstone?
Maintenance is simple but requires some precautions adapted to the mineral nature of the material. After each use: retrieve the stones with the tongs, rinse them with lukewarm water (never boiling water, which can create thermal shock). Washing: if necessary, use a mild, unscented soap in very small quantities and a non-abrasive sponge — never use abrasive sponges or harsh products that could damage the polished finish. Drying: wipe completely with a clean cloth to avoid any residual moisture. Storage: immediately return the stones to their provided fabric pouch and to the freezer. Wooden box: occasionally wipe with a soft, dry cloth to dust it. Avoid: dishwasher, boiling water, scented detergents, abrasive sponges. With this minimal care, your soapstone cubes will accompany you for decades.
Is the Whisky Stone Set an ideal Father's Day gift?
Absolutely, it is one of our most popular Father's Day gifts, for several reasons. Ready-to-gift presentation: the elegant wooden box is its own gift box, you don't need additional wrapping — just add a ribbon and a card. Authentic gift: the ancestral tradition aspect particularly appeals to fathers who appreciate objects with a history and heritage craftsmanship. Real daily utility: unlike many Father's Day gifts that end up in the closet, whisky stones are regularly used by tasting enthusiasts. Symbol of sharing: the set can become an opportunity to share a father-child tasting moment by using the stones together for the first time. For the ultimate Father's Day gift, pair the set with a good bottle of single malt that your father can immediately enjoy using his new gift. It is also an excellent birthday, Christmas, or retirement gift.

Definitely worth the read!
Format: Kindle
After taking a deep breath and taking in that wicked twist of an ending, I have finally composed myself. My first thought when I started this book was that I love Reyna's character. I was intrigued by her connection with her familiar and the Ruin that is plaguing her land. It came as no surprise that she took her sister's place in an attempt to protect her. When they reach the Air Court everything slows down. This is where it was iffy for me. First of all, I like multiple POV's in books however 7 is a bit much. It starts to interrupt the story line. I felt like I was finally making progress connecting with one character, then it was switched to another person. I felt they all had necessary or pertinent information but not necessarily were they all POV worthy. The only other thing that annoyed me was that Reyna constantly was " trapped." She would rush off without thinking, only to need rescuing. She is brilliant in a fight, but she really doesn't think through anything. Lorcan is amazing. I know he might be on the "bad" list, but his background is so interesting. Eislyn(Reyna's sister) is really so sweet, but calculating. I enjoyed her and Thane's dialogue. The author did an amazing job with the imagery in this book. Everything was so detailed it was easy to fall into the scene. I love unexpected twists and while part of the ending I expected, I wasn't expecting how it took place. All in all, I found it very entertaining and I am very invested in continuing this series. Favorite quotes: "The truth may be twisted but never false." "Who was she if she was not the enemy of the Air Court? What was her purpose of she no longer has that?" "In a war-torn land, love was always a lie."

Great Read!!! Great story!!!
Format: Kindle
The series is long, but Ms. Wolfhart does a fantastic job of weaving this tale while bringing so much to the characters. Surprises and plot twists along the way to keep you intrigued. There is some graphic sex, but is no way the focal point. Grammar was excellent (a rare find with a lot of self publishers) with only a few noted errors. I rarely give 4 stars, let alone 5.

Sadly, DNF
Format: Kindle
I read this thru KU. I LOVED the synopsis. And then I began reading... and it was a DNF at 68% after picking it up and putting it down several times because I really loved the main female character. *****SPOILERS***** Pros: The world is unique, intriguing and fun. The primary female character is bad-a** but not a b*tech or a mary sue. The primary female has depth. I really want to know what happens to her even tho it's been weeks and I don't remember her name. The villains to the point I read are pretty good -- an ever present threat of mysterious and possibly many culprits. Cons: Way, way too many points of view. I stopped counting at 7. It's the prime reason why I don't care about most of the characters or remember their names even when I like them. There's just too many points of view so almost none of the characters have enough book space for the author to properly develop them. This literally killed the book for me. Actually it killed my desire to read. For weeks. The main male is more villain than hero. He agreed to marry the main female then locks her up & eschews her for her sister, all while bad mouthing her as unfit to rule when he never spent any time with her getting to know her. He is actually unfit to rule as he is blind to the woes of his own kingdom and starts off a peace mission to secure a ceasefire through marriage by murdering an inn full of people in her country for no real reason. Plus, he constantly makes promises he does not keep. And it's gross of him to pine for the sister behind the main female's back. ***** As much as I really wanted to see what happened to the main female character, it wasn't enough for me to keep trying to slog thru this book. There was a lot of potential here that just fell short. Hence, 3 stars.

Fae Courts with High Intrigue
Format: Kindle
This book is one that just builds and builds and then surprises you to no end. You may think you know the villains and then you are jolted in another direction. Princess Reyna is a real gem, strong of character, a fierce fighter, and loyal to her family and kingdom. Just when you think she and Lorcan, well you know, the plot is flipped. Can't wait to see where this goes in book two.

Slow, sorry but good
Format: Kindle
This was a slow moving book. Lots of character pov chapters, lots of superfluous descriptions and endless courtly appearances stalled this book to start. Once you get into the heart of the story, it takes off. Before you know it the book is done. My favorite character is Reyna. She is so strong. She is true to herself. She gets into a lot of trouble with her headstrong ways but it's entertaining. I have high hopes for Lorcan. He is honorable to a fault. Thane had turned out to be better than I thought but i still don't like him. Eislin is useless. Great plot twists at the end. I'm looking forward too book 2.
