About this collection: In my paintings, I explore my identity and connection to place. I reflect on peaceful moments of solitary introspection in nature and intermingle those recollections with imagined details to create pictures of a place that feel authentic and reflective of my identity. With fast-drying acrylic, I layer immediate and spontaneous marks and glazes, building up on the surface to create depth and interest in my garden-like landscapes. As I paint, I consider relationships between marks, opacity, texture, colour, light, and shadow, manipulating them to deepen the layered sense of place until the painting reaches a balanced familiarity. Ground-level perspective and wild, weedy drifts of rhythmic grasses and plants invite lingering observation and a moment of grounded introspection for the viewer.
