The BUFFALO TeraStation 5420 is a robust, enterprise-grade NAS built to empower small to mid-sized businesses with worry-free storage, powerful data protection, and scalable performance. This 4-bay rackmount system arrives with four 12TB enterprise hard drives pre-installed, delivering a total of 48TB of raw capacity ready for immediate deployment. Designed for continuous operation in professional environments, the TeraStation 5420 blends rugged reliability with user-friendly management, enabling effortless file sharing, centralized backups, and secure collaboration across teams. If you need a centralized storage backbone that supports flexible RAID configurations, easy administration, and seamless integration with Windows, Mac, and Linux clients, the TeraStation 5420 is a compelling choice that grows with your business needs.

  • High-capacity 48TB total storage across four 12TB drives, providing ample space for team projects, multimedia assets, backups, and shared folders. This turnkey solution reduces the need for frequent expansions while enabling efficient data organization and archiving. The large capacity supports multiple teams and departments with scalable performance that keeps pace with rising data demands.
  • 4-bay rackmount design with enterprise drives pre-installed, offering hot-swappable bays for quick drive replacements without downtime. The pre-loaded enterprise-grade HDDs reduce initial setup time and help ensure sustained reliability, durability, and mission-critical performance in demanding office environments. The rackmount form factor makes it a natural fit for server rooms, data closets, or IT closets with standard 19-inch racks.

How to install BUFFALO TeraStation 5420

Setting up the BUFFALO TeraStation 5420 is designed to be straightforward, allowing your team to begin sharing files and backing up data quickly. Follow these steps to install and configure your storage appliance for immediate use:

  • Unbox and inspect: Remove the TeraStation 5420 from its packaging, verify that the four 12TB drives are present, and check included mounting hardware, cables, and documentation. Ensure the power cord and any rack-mount ears are included for installation in a rack.
  • Rack mounting (if needed): Attach the rack ears and secure the unit in a standard 19-inch rack. Confirm that the device has adequate clearance for ventilation and is positioned to allow easy access to front-panel indicators and rear ports.
  • Connect to the network and power: Connect the NAS to a network switch or router using a standard Ethernet cable. Plug in the power cord and power on the unit. Allow the startup sequence to complete; this may take a few minutes as drives initialize and the NAS boots the operating system.
  • Find the IP address and access the admin interface: Use your router’s DHCP client list or the Buffalo setup utility to locate the NAS IP address. Open a web browser and enter the IP address to reach the web-based management interface. Log in with the default administrator credentials provided in the documentation, then secure the account by changing the password.
  • Configure storage and RAID: Use the management interface to initialize the drives, select a RAID level that fits your redundancy and capacity goals, and create a storage volume. If you’re migrating from another NAS, you can import shares and user accounts to preserve continuity.
  • Set up shares and access permissions: Create shared folders for departments or teams, assign user groups, and configure permissions to control read/write access. Implement appropriate security settings and enable auditing if your policy requires monitoring.
  • Establish backups and remote access: Configure scheduled backups to local networks or cloud destinations, set up remote access or VPN connections if needed, and verify recovery procedures. Test a backup and perform a data restoration check to ensure reliability.
  • Apply updates and monitor health: Check for OS and firmware updates, apply them, and configure health monitoring alerts for drives, fans, and network status. Establish a regular maintenance routine to keep the system secure and performing at optimal levels.

Strong and Durable, Great for Large Garbage Cans
Scent: Unscented, Size: 50 Count (Pack of 1)
I’ve got a large garbage can for a big family, and in the past, every other brand of bag I tried would always slip down when filling it, turning trash day into a messy nightmare. I finally decided to look for a heavy-duty, extra-large bag and found these 30-gallon Glad bags—and I’m glad I did. I even tested three different brands to see which one I liked best, and these came out on top by far. They’re rip-resistant, strong, and extra roomy, making them perfect for a busy household. Even if they’re a little more expensive than other bags, the durability and reliability make them totally worth the extra cost. No more wrestling with sagging trash bags!

Been Using These for Years
Scent: Unscented, Size: 50 Count (Pack of 1)
I have been using these Glad 30 gallon ForceFlex trash bags for years and they never disappoint. The black color looks clean, they are thick and strong, and the unscented option is perfect if you do not want artificial smells. They hold up well with heavy trash, resist leaks, and the drawstrings make them easy to tie and carry. Great quality and worth the price.

Holds up really well in my house!
Scent: Unscented, Size: 50 Count (Pack of 1)
Good trash bags. They hold up really well and do not tear like most trash bags do. Would recommend. Do not notice a strong scent to them either.

still the best
Scent: Unscented, Size: 50 Count (Pack of 1)
Update from after they changed the bags to the two layer bags. I was alerted by another customer that the bags on the page changed, and she scared me away from trying the new version so much I bought the Hefty bags. Well, I am back. I did not like those, they are stiff, but they slash through easy and I did not like the smell. I looked again into glad bags, and realized that they did not get thinner. They are now two layers. Each of the two is thinner, but together they make for a stronger bag. It works just like when the cashier at the grocery store double-bags your heavy milk cartons. I used up a smaller box of this new dual defense variety and went back on amazon to buy the bigger box. They work the same as the old ones. They are strong and do not rip under normal conditions. I like how stretchy they are. The outside layer is white, inside layer is black. The bags look gray from the outside as the black shows from under the white. It looks black from the inside, and you cannot see gray when it is in the garbage can in the kitchen. Original review: Those are my favorite bags. I use them in my regular size kitchen garbage can, because it is black and I do not like how white bags show when used inside of trash cans. And I do not like to use clear bags - who wants to see the garbage? So, black it is. I like that the bags are bigger than the can since I never have any problems closing the bags and can fit a pizza box or something extra that would not fit into the can and waits for its turn behind the can. Forceflex bags are truly tough, they can stretch around items instead of tearing, and the red ribbon inside is thick and attached securely, too, so it stays where it supposed to be, and I do not get any nasty surprises on my way to the outside bin, and my trash collectors never have to pick up fallen garbage from the road, too.

Trash bags
Scent: Unscented, Size: 30 Count (Pack of 1)
They are inexpensive. They hold up well but are not super heavy duty like the ones you can get from home depot. Only knocked off one star for this reason. It would have been two as i felt it was kinda thinner than expected but it held up well holding wood pieces. Minor tear or puncture on 2 out of 5 needing to double bag but still held up fairly well with all things considered so if day 4 stars is fair
