artist biography
Elvine Selma Osterman was born 28 February, 1908 in Vänersborg. She was a Swedish visual artist and sculptor.

After attending the Higher School of Arts and Crafts (Slöjdföreningens högre yrkesskola), Osterman studied at the Valand School of Fine Arts in Gothenburg from 1927 to 1930, where her teacher was Tor Bjurström. She thus belonged to the same generation of Bjurström-inspired “Gothenburg Colourists” as Ivan Ivarson, Åke Göransson, Inge Schiöler, and Ragnar Sandberg. Her painting shares many traits with theirs, while at the same time expressing a wholly independent, distinctly feminine temperament.

Her West Coast landscapes, mostly from Tjörn, and her figure paintings reveal a colourism of a lighter, more luminous kind than that of her contemporaries—“a sun-filled, colour-translucent softness breathing freshness, vegetative calm, and a humble affirmation of life” (Emmy Melin in Arbetaren, 30 November 1951). The essence of her painting lay above all in its powerful light intensity, combined with sensitively modulated, painterly expressiveness. During the 1950s she turned increasingly toward a more rhythmically animated pictorial movement, particularly in a series of dance motifs that expanded her formal and expressive range. Her drawings also hold an important place in her production, marked by painterly depth of black, including portraits of friends and children.

Osterman undertook study trips to Germany and Italy. She held solo exhibitions in Copenhagen (1935), Olsen’s Konstsalong, Gothenburg (1945, 1947), Skövde (with W. Sjölander, 1947), Modern konst i hemmiljö, Stockholm (1951), Galleri Aveny, Gothenburg (1952), Killbergs Konstsalong, Helsingborg (1952), and Lorensbergs Konstsalong, Gothenburg (1959). Among numerous group exhibitions, she participated in the touring exhibition “Västsvenskt landskap” arranged by the National Association for Fine Arts, as well as in exhibitions organised by the Helsingborg Art Association and the Landskrona Art Association.

She was a member of the National Association of Swedish Artists (Konstnärernas Riksorganisation) and the Gothenburg Artists’ Club. Her works are represented in the Vikingsberg Art Museum, Helsingborg Museum, Gothenburg Museum and Landskrona Museum.

In 1933 she married the actor Yngve Axel Nordwall. She is the mother of actor Gurie Nordwall and set designer Akke Nordwall. She passed away at the age of 89 on 7 August, 1997 in Gothenburg.

My 90 lb. Pitbull's All-Time Fave Toy
Size: Large, Color: Coral, Size: Large, Color: Coral
I ordered a plethora of new toys for Bruce to keep him occupied while I am working remotely from home. Poor guy gets so bored while I'm stuck in front of my computer 8+ hours a day. All the other toys are animated, but this one is just a big floppy chewy squeaky toy. Bruce quickly lost interest in all the other chirping, hopping, and twirling toys and fell in love with "Diny". When I opened Diny and gave it to Bruce, he had the elated and surprised look of a 3 yr old at Christmas. And he stayed that happy for hours, and then each time he picked up Diny to play. Diny became his go-to toy over all others (and there are many!). It is well made out of durable fabric, and they did not stuff it full of kapoc (I hate kapoc in dogs toys!). And it is delightfully low-tech. Normally he tears a squeaky toy apart as soon as he can isolate the squeaky mechanism. But cleverly, the squeaky box is loose in the long belly so it moves from one end to the other as the toy is handled. That made it difficult for Bruce to locate it. The toy remained in good condition for 2 weeks of near constant attention by Bruce. But yesterday he zeroed in on the squeaky box and ripped Diny to shreds. I was sad to see Diny go so soon. But boy-howdy was Bruce happy with it. I'm gonna buy another because we liked it so much. And so did I : )

This is one “under the radar” gem!!
Size: Large, Color: Coral
This is one “under the radar” gem!! Very strong internal squeaker and way tougher than it looks. My big 125lb Shepard-Husky mix gave it heck, then made it his new buddy. He’ll occasionally give it the business but on the whole, it’s surprisingly tough and my big boy loves it. Nice price!!

Cute but small
Size: Large, Color: Skinny Green
Cute stuffy and has not yet ripped. While my dogs plays with it, the toy is a bit small for him. For reference he is 120lbs.

Powerful little ball
The ball is well designed, made, and is durable. It is functional and easy to turn on. It has a good amount of power and movement to capture my pets attention. It moves easily on wooden, laminated, and carpeted floors. The material is hard which makes it not break down easily when bitten or chewed. The colors are appealing and attractive.

Too big and heavy for my dog. Spins more often than it rolls. Good material.
The first time we used this, which honestly took a bit too long to figure out, our dog was excited and immediately kicked it under the couch. I guess that makes sense, you really have no idea where this thing is going to end up. I did fish it out after a bit, and it needed a charge. After reassembly, the ball would only spin in circles until it was hit. That's probably just as well, as it was still engaging and less likely to roll away. The issue is this is large and heavy, larger than a tennis ball and heavier than it looks. That's fine for big dogs, but it isn't great for small dogs like Boston terriers or frenchies, and definitely useless for toy breeds. My dog was able to lift it with the module removed, and that's how he prefers it now. The outer TPU layer is strong and grippy, so it's not a total waste. It looks a little rougher than the pictures appear but my dog doesn't mind. I get it... I"ve worked with TPU before and it's a temperamental material. The price is quite low, but not if you aren't getting use out of the mechanical aspect. This is a good value for the right dog: a medium dog with a snout - maybe a sheltie; definitely a golden. For others, a smaller version would be nice.
