2-voice Class A/Class AB switch

When testing out the Ambassador Custom, one of the features that most impressive was this amplifier’s innovative Class A/Class AB switch. Not quite a voicing switch and not quite a power scaling function, this switch utterly transforms the Ambassador Custom’s design from Class A to Class AB circuitry.

• Class A: Clocking in at 35 watts, this mode captures the raw, inefficient, and tweed-esque rasp of Supro’s greatest vintage amplifiers. Rich midrange is the name of the game here, and players who worship at the bluesy hard-rock altar established by Supro’s most iconic models will find much to love in Class A mode.
• Class AB: This mode harnesses the Ambassador Custom’s full 50-watt potential. With a more scooped midrange response, quicker transients, and a firm bass. While it’s certainly slightly closer to the “California” sound, Class AB mode beautifully retains a sharp Supro edge when you start to push the Ambassador Custom’s front end.

The Ambassador Custom features a rugged — and eye-catching — poplar cabinet with a mid-century, Valco-inspired wraparound design and a sturdy dog bone handle for easy transportation. The cabinet is loaded with two Celestion BD10 Supro speakers, which provide a supremely punchy tone with a round, firm low-end response.
