Collins explore the possibility that the magazine, in purporting to teach us about distant cultures, actually tells us much more about our own.Lutz and Collins take us inside the National Geographic Society to investigate how its photographers, editors, and designers select images and text to produce representations of Third World cultures. Through interviews with the editors, they describe the process as one of negotiating standards of "balance" and "objectivity," informational content and visual beauty. Then, in a close reading of some six hundred photographs, they examine issues of race, gender, privilege, progress, and modernity through an analysis of the way such things as color, pose, framing, and vantage point are used in representations of non-Western peoples. Finally, through extensive interviews with readers, the authors assess how the cultural narratives of the magazine are received and interpreted, and identify a tension between the desire to know about other peoples and their ways and the wish to validate middle-class American values.
The result is a complex portrait of an institution and its role in promoting a kind of conservative humanism that acknowledges universal values and celebrates diversity while it allows readers to relegate non-Western peoples to an earlier stage of progress. We see the magazine and the Society as a key middlebrow arbiter of taste, wealth, and power in America, and we get a telling glimpse into middle-class American culture and all the wishes, assumptions, and fears it brings to bear on our armchair explorations of the world."

Buy the individual cross cut sheets, not these rolls.
Size: 36 sqft
I ordered two different types, individually cross cut foil rectangular pieces and these rolls both containing 36. sq. ft. The cross cut sheet blows this away. This stuff is much thinner, much less butyl rubber, much flimsier foil, and needs twice as much to have the same effect. Once you put it on, you cant remove it. The other brand's 2mm is much thicker than this.

Cheap Insurance Against Headliner Failure
If you’ve ever owned a Jeep with a hardtop, you already know that heat, cold, humidity, and constant temperature swings can be tough on adhesives over time. Even when replacement headliner kits include their own adhesive, I still like having a high-quality automotive adhesive on hand for extra peace of mind.
This 3M product has been one of my go-to choices for headliner work because it is specifically designed for automotive environments where materials are exposed to extreme summer heat and winter cold. The last thing anyone wants is to spend time installing a headliner only to have corners start sagging or sections pull away months later.
The spray pattern is consistent, the adhesion is strong, and it provides the confidence that the installation will hold up long-term. I have found it especially useful for Jeep hardtops, where temperature fluctuations can be much more extreme than in a traditional vehicle.
The cans arrived well packaged, and having multiple cans on hand is convenient for larger projects or future repairs.
For Jeep owners, restorations, headliner repairs, upholstery projects, or anyone wanting a little extra insurance against adhesive failure, this is a product I would not hesitate to keep in the garage.

Easy to Use and Professional Results
This adhesive saved me a trip to the upholstery shop. It bonded my fabric headliner back in place with a solid, even hold. No overspray issues, and it dries quickly. Looks like it was professionally done. Two cans were more than enough for the job.
