artist biography
Ryno Frieberg was a Swedish artist born on August 30, 1920 in Falun. During his first 13 years, the family lived in Söderbärke where his father was a forest manager. In 1933 the family moved to Strömsberg in North Uppland where Frieberg attended school in Gävle, graduating in 1940. That same year he began his artistic education at Sigge Bergström and Otte Sköld's art schools. This became the gateway to his life as an artist. He furthered his studies at the Konstakademien (Art Academy) under artists Emil Johansson-Thor and Harald Sallberg.

After the end of World War II, Frieberg was able to travel abroad. He married artist Beth Zeeh and the couple's first destination was Paris. At this stage Frieberg was already a relatively experienced artist with a number of exhibitions behind him. By 1941 he had participated in the National Museum's annual exhibition emerging artists - ‘”Unga tecknare”’, and was exhibiting in the Christmas exhibitions of the Dalakonstnärernas and at Gummessons Konsthall. His debut solo exhibition was in 1943 at Gummessons Konsthall, a great success that was followed by many exhibitions around exhibitions in Norrköping, Gävle, Skövde and Uppsala. He is best known for his portraits, nudes, interiors, landscapes and still life works.

Examples of Frieberg’s work are held in a number public collections including National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Muséet in Stockholm, Gothenburg Art Museum, Museums in Norrköping, Falun, Gävle, Hudiksvall, Luleå, Södertälje, and Eskilstuna, the Tessin Institute in Paris and Gripsholm.

Frieberg passed away in on November 19, 2018, aged 98.
