Their stuff tended to be a big oblique, and 'Black Man Ray' was surely the best example of that. It didn't make much sense, lyrically, in the 80s; I've learnt that not much has changed, with multiple hypotheses as to what it all means readily available online. The combination of 'Black Man Ray' and 'China Crisis' immediately evoked the secret agent, to me. "It's the China Crisis!", clearly a political thriller novel title!
