how to install ATEN 8-Port Serial Console Server

Installing the ATEN SN9108CO/SN9116CO is intended to be a straightforward process that minimizes downtime and disruption to your existing infrastructure. Follow these practical steps to get your console server up and running quickly:

  • Prepare the chassis and workspace: Choose a clean, ventilated area with adequate clearance for heat dissipation. If using a rack, mount the unit in a suitable location within the rack where cable access is convenient and cables won’t be strained.
  • Connect serial devices: Attach your serial equipment to the appropriate ports on the SN9108CO or SN9116CO using rugged serial cables. Ensure correct port assignments so you can easily identify devices during remote sessions.
  • Establish network access: Connect the console server to your network via the built-in LAN port. Configure any required VLAN tagging or IP addressing in accordance with your network design, so the device is reachable for management from your chosen network segment.
  • Power up and initial configuration: Apply power to the unit. Access the management interface using the default access method provided by ATEN (web GUI or CLI). It is recommended to perform the initial configuration from a workstation on the same network to simplify access.
  • Secure and customize the setup: Create administrator accounts, apply strong passwords, and configure access control policies. Map each serial port to the corresponding device, set baud rates and data formats, and enable logging and alerting to monitor device activity. Save configuration changes and perform a test session to verify remote console connectivity.
  • Firmware and maintenance: Check for the latest firmware release from ATEN and apply updates as needed to ensure you benefit from security patches and feature enhancements. Regularly review logs and audit trails to maintain a secure, well-managed environment.

Needs to be sturdier.
The posts aren’t as sturdy as they should be. Don’t know if it’s the screws or the openings.

Perfect earring tree
Color: Bronze
I was so tired of fumbling through a handful of tangled earrings in my jewelery box every morning - went looking for something to organize them and found this lovely tree. Since I am a admirer of all things bird, the design appealed to me. I was a bit worried it might be too garish, but was pleasantly surprised. The burnished copper-like finish is quite nice, and the embossed designs on the trunk and leaves give it a three-dimensional look. The nest is sturdy and holds my rings and bracelets, and I could hang necklaces from the branches (but I have another place for those.) I was worried it would be too large for my counter top - it is 17" tall x 15" wide - but it works well as a decorative piece. The sturdy base (7"x3") provides stability. Lots of holes for earrings and works just as well for dangles as for posts. All in all I am very pleased with this purchase. It came in a sturdy box and only one leaf was slightly crimped, which was easy to gently bend back into shape. And best of all - no more tangled mess of wires and hoops to sort out each morning!

Great earring tree!I
Color: Silver, Color: Silver
I like this earring tree more than I’d expected to! It holds a lot of earrings, is very sturdy and stable, and cute. It also has a little nest basket where you can put items like bracelets and rings. I love that I can see my earring options, and find the ones that best go with my outfit when getting ready for work in the morning. I’m glad it’s metal, almost a work of art, vs cheap plastic. It’s a pleasure to look at, not just functionally useful.

Exactly what I wanted!
It is really exactly what I was looking for. I've been living with my jewelry in ziplock bags since we moved over here and everything fits perfect. I saw some reviews that claimed it was unstable but I tested it and it seems sturdy though I'm not hanging heavy pieces. It is a nice size and I love the little ring basket. It also feels pretty decent quality too. Glad I got the black one as I'm not sure where I have it that the copper/bronze would look right. I think it is elegant, practical and I wish I could post a photo with my pieces on it to show that it really holds things beautifully.

Looks great by my bed!
Even my boyfriend keeps commenting how much he likes it. It's a usable piece of art! I will comment that the earring holes can be a little tricky since the leaves are turned all different ways. You have to be strategic with how you line up your long/dangle-y earrings with your studs so everybody fits and can be seen. A little tricky. But not a deal breaker - especially when it's so easy on the eye. The other slight negative is that this really isn't the best necklace holder. I would have thought, "No problem!" But it's a bit awkward. Especially if you actually intend to see all your earrings. You'll end up hanging most of your necklaces from the top most branch - but they slide down into the crevice to stay. Then you've got a lot of overlapping. And trickiness to retrieve the exact necklace you want with ease. However, this is still a fabulous earring tree. I can't say enough good things about it. Love the little basket for miscellaneous. Hair bands, lip gloss, etc.
