The ULTIMATE 81™ model was developed based on marathon running shoes with a slick unique form, in contrast to other running shoes of the time. The updated feature here was the attention paid to technical elements and running performance, over weight reduction, which was the prevailing design focus at the time.

Unlike other running shoes, the ULTIMATE 81™ model married cross-trainers with running shoes for a style all its own. It had the sleek form of a running style, yet also an outer sole with the height and roll-up design of a lifestyle shoe.
