His twelfth studio album since disbanding his hyper-ragtime vaudeville act Squirrel Nut Zippers in 2000 and Mathus' sixth collaboration with Big Legal Mess Records owner and producer Bruce Watson. Known as a "blues mystic", the "singing voice of Huck Finn", and "the original crazy Mississippi white-boy", Mathus is also known to have produced Elvis Costello, been Buddy Guy's guitartist, and to perform over 200 shows a year for the past two decades, all while staying true to his vision of true Southern musical craftsmanship. The material runs the gamut from sleazy rock and roll (Gringo Man), brooding southern weirdness (Stop Your Crying) and straight up Appalachian mountain hollers (Catahoula)... in other words a typical Mathus/Watson collaboration. Helpful
Format: Paperback
This is a nice compliment to other classroom instruction materials. I am teaching an advanced pathophysiology course in a nurse practitioner program. This book is very helpful for students to put together the concepts of patho with the clinical setting. Will use these for in-class group assignments. Case-studies are thorough and offer a variety of different disease processes to choose from. It certainly does not offer a case study for every possible disease or clinical scenario, but does cover most major areas and enough variety in my opinion. Should be helpful in reinforcing the clinical significance of some difficult to understand concepts. I would recommend this text to course instructors.

Good book!
Format: Paperback
Very helpful book for pathophysiology. The CD not only gives you answers to the case studies but gives you clear details of the clinical Pathophysiology of a particular disease. Definitely recommend it to students going for their Master's degree!

No Answers Provided to Case Studies
Format: Paperback
The cases are helpful; however, realize that there are NO answers whatsoever to the questions presented in the cases--not a huge problem I suppose, b/c you can google everything, but certainly an annoyance. (esp. when there are multiple possible answers. The author states in the foreword that some of the cases are real; in which case, why not provide the justification presented in the patient's chart as to why that patient takes a particular drug, esp. considering that you may take a drug for its side effects rather than its therapeutic effect. . .anyhow. . )
I think if the author provided at least SOME insight/guidance to the cases that it would be much more helpful, but until then, I'm skeptical as to why others gave this book 5 stars.

Used this for a Patho class and thought it was a great resource. My group had hypertension and it was really good about giving an overview of the disease without overwhelming you with information. Some of the studies were obvious as to why the disorder occurred but in those cases it helped link body systems and show interactions.
