The beauty of the bird is a captivating mixture of form and function. Every colorful feather is intentional in its design. When I was a child drawing birds in my notebook, I honestly thought that their vibrant display was for my amusement. As I grew up and discovered more about them, I was in awe to learn that their elaborate patterns and plumage are also practical. They are painted like this to attract a mate! Like us, some partners find specific colors more attractive; some species dance for their partners. Amazingly, the more time I spend watching birds, discovering birds, and painting birds, the more I learn that they are so similar to us humans.
