The Wasp WPL406 is engineered for the rigors of busy work floors, warehouses, and manufacturing lines where consistency and uptime translate to real bottom‑line value. This low-profile, industrial barcode printer combines rugged, all‑metal construction with modern connectivity to deliver reliable label printing day after day. Whether your operation requires entry‑level direct thermal prints or the durability of thermal transfer labels with an optional ribbon, the WPL406 is built to adapt and excel. Its die‑cast aluminum print mechanism and robust housing are designed to withstand the bumps, dust, and humidity common in industrial environments while maintaining precise print quality and repeatable results that your labeling tasks demand.

  • Industrial durability meets precise performance. The WPL406 uses an all‑metal exterior housing and a die‑cast print mechanism to deliver consistent label quality in demanding settings, reducing downtime due to printer wear or failures.
  • Versatile printing options for any labeling job. Choose direct thermal for fast, maintenance‑free printing or thermal transfer when long‑life labels are required, with support for an optional ribbon to extend label durability in harsh conditions.
  • Comprehensive connectivity for seamless integration. Best‑in‑class options include Ethernet for network printing, USB 2.0 for quick local connections, and Serial for legacy equipment compatibility, ensuring easy deployment across diverse environments.
  • Monochrome clarity with professional label results. The WPL406 delivers crisp, legible monochrome prints with reliable character definition, ideal for barcodes, asset tags, and inventory labels that must scan reliably at the dock or on the shelf.
  • Built‑in cutter for streamlined label processing. An integrated cutter enables high‑volume label throughput with clean, gapless outputs, reducing handling time and improving workflow efficiency on busy lines.

how to install Wasp WPL406

Setting up the WPL406 is designed to be straightforward so you can deploy quickly and start printing with minimal downtime. Follow these steps to get your printer up and running in a typical industrial environment:

  • Unpack the printer and verify all components are present, including power supply, interface cables, and documentation. Inspect the exterior for any transit damage and ensure the cutter is unlocked before loading media.
  • Place the printer on a stable, level surface near a power outlet and your chosen interface (Ethernet, USB, or Serial). Ensure there is adequate space for media loading, media path, and access to the cutter.
  • Connect power first, then attach the chosen communication cable. If using Ethernet, plug the cable into your network switch or router; for USB, connect to a free USB port on the host computer; for Serial, attach to the appropriate COM port and set the correct baud rate per your configuration.
  • Install the printer drivers and utilities on your computer or print server. Use the driver software provided by Wasp or your value‑added reseller to ensure full feature support, including cutter control and label calibration. If needed, download the latest drivers from the Wasp support site.
  • Load media and ribbon (if using thermal transfer): open the media covers, thread the label stock through the path, and guide the media width to the correct position. If using thermal transfer, install the ribbon with the proper orientation and tension, then thread the stock back through the printer.
  • Calibrate the printer: perform a media calibration to set the label size, gap/marks, and print position. This ensures that text, barcodes, and graphics align correctly on every label output.
  • Test the printer: print a few test labels to verify print quality, alignment, and cutter operation. Adjust printer settings (darkness, speed, and label length) as needed to optimize for your specific label stock and application.
  • Configure network sharing or direct printing: if using Ethernet, assign a static IP or enable DHCP as per your IT policy, then set up the printer on your print server or direct workstation path. For best results, document the printer’s IP address and driver settings for future maintenance.
  • Establish label templates and integration: integrate the WPL406 into your existing ERP/WMS workflow or labeling software. Create templates for common label formats, including barcodes, text fields, and logos, to maximize automation and minimize manual editing.

Frequently asked questions

  • What types of labeling tasks is the WPL406 best suited for? The WPL406 excels at high‑volume industrial labeling, including warehouse inventory tags, asset labels, shipping and receiving labels, and general purpose barcoding. Its dual printing options enable you to choose the most cost‑effective approach—direct thermal for routine labels or thermal transfer for durability in harsh environments.
  • Does the WPL406 support network printing? Yes. It includes Ethernet connectivity, allowing printers to be shared across a local network or integrated into enterprise printing infrastructure without relying on a single workstation.
  • Can I use the built‑in cutter regularly? Absolutely. The integrated cutter is designed for consistent, high‑volume labeling workflows and helps keep production lines moving by reducing manual handling time.
  • Is the printer suitable for legacy systems? The presence of Serial connectivity ensures compatibility with older equipment and control systems often found in established manufacturing environments, alongside USB and Ethernet options for newer setups.
  • What maintenance is required to keep the WPL406 running smoothly? Routine tasks include cleaning the print head and media path, replacing worn media guides as needed, calibrating media when changing stock, and updating drivers when prompted by software updates. The robust metal construction minimizes component wear, contributing to longer service life with proper care.

Durable, Fun, soft enough to not break teeth
Finally found a quality toy that our 75lb Black Mouth Cur hasn't destroyed in 5 minutes! In fact it's been a few months now. There are teeth marks, but she hasn't been able to take a chunk out of it yet. It even has some bounce to it when you toss it. And she finds it fun. Veterinary dentists recommend toys that are soft enough that you can leave a fingernail print in for toys that are less likely to break teeth, unlike bones and antlers. This is that toy! (My other dog broke both of her upper 3 rooted premolars on a Nylabone - healthy roots but the slab fracture exposed the pulp and had to be removed. Healthy roots are more difficult to remove. Dentists say those and antlers are money makers. 😭)

Great toy for big chewers!
Have only had 3 days but my boy has been trying to destroy it and it’s holding up really well! Normally his toys would have been destroyed in 24 hours or less, including Kong and other brands advertised as tough!

Durability is no joke!
Excellent product! Our GSD puppy chewed it for the past 10 months and she is a pretty strong chewer. Only now did she manage to get a couple small pieces off of it, and WoofBite was quick to provide our one-time replacement. Great customer service! Will purchase more of their products and highly recommend!

So far so good
Had this for almost a month and no chunks have been chewed off yet. I have a lab who prefers chewing over pulling or retrieving type toys. She's destroyed everything we've given her --sometimes within minutes. She loves Wubbas but she chews them to bits immediately. Other toys get chunks or small pieces chewed off and we wind up throwing them away. This has lasted well. Full disclosure, we only pull out toys at the end of the day for just a couple of hours, and we are within sight of her the whole time, that's why 4 stars. But so far to our surprise this has held up very well.

Indestructible m
It’s actually indestructible. I have a black mouth cur who once ripped apart a Kong toy in minutes. Got him this and another ball shaped one for Xmas and 5 months later, there are just some puncture holes, no rips or chunks taken out! They’re in his top 3 favorite toys for sure!
