Jamie xx returns with In Waves, his long-awaited second studio album, released on September 20, 2024, via Young. His first full-length in nine years, following In Colour (2015), the album features an eclectic lineup of collaborators, including his xx bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim, as well as Honey Dijon, Kelsey Lu, John Glacier, Panda Bear, Robyn, the Avalanches, and Oona Doherty.
The album was introduced through a trio of singles: "Baddy on the Floor" featuring Honey Dijon arrived in April 2024, followed by "Treat Each Other Right" alongside the album announcement on June 4, and "Life" on June 17. Ahead of the release, Jamie xx hosted The Floor, a ten-night residency at London's Venue MOT in May, described as a series of club nights with surprise guests.
On June 28, he headlined Glastonbury’s Woodsies Stage, premiering several In Waves tracks with guest appearances from Romy, Oliver Sim, and Robyn. A release show is set for September 26 at Alexandra Palace in London.
In Waves received widespread critical acclaim, earning an 84/100 on Metacritic. The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis noted its emphasis on club-ready tracks, calling it "the work of a smart, skilled producer" that "hits the target far more often than it misses." Pitchfork’s Jessie Dorris praised its polished sound, describing it as "animated by the ecstatic and easy pleasures of the dancefloor."
