Manaʻo behind the print

I’ve always been drawn to Kapa. Fabric made from Wauke which is the paper mulberry tree. The outer layer of bark was scrapped off and the inner bark was soaked and beaten down to create the fabric. The designs that were stamped onto the fabric with natural plant dies always caught my eye. They were geometric designs and patterns that replicated nature. I can rarely find vintage bark cloth that fits me because I Momona. So I decided to create my own line of Kapa textile mea for da whole ‘Ohana. I intergrated symbols for fish, iwa birds, Pepeʻe which is Baby hāpuʻu fern shoots, liko lehua, and other geometric shapes to form this one of a kind ancestral print.
