A double gunshot murder had happened in the same first class train car that Holmes and Watson were riding in.  The victims were an old couple in compartment no.2, and inside the same compartment was a young woman so terrified that her face was drained of colour.  Initial investigation revealed that compartments no.3 and no.4 were empty, and compartment no.1 had four male passengers while an elderly mother and her two daughters were seated in compartment no.6.  The strangest thing was that a wedge had obstructed the sliding door to compartment no.2, the crime scene, but it had left a one-inch gap opening.  Coincidentally, the sliding door to compartment no.1 was also stuck closed.  The door obstructions meant that the killer could not be someone seated inside compartment no.2 or compartment no.1.  However, a number of clues seemed to indicate that the killer’s accomplice was hiding amongst that group of passengers!
Holmes was mystified by this case.  How did the killer manage to make themself vanish without a trace on a train that was travelling at high speed?   And beyond everyone’s imagination, lying behind this double murder was a deep-seated grudge that spanned over three decades!
