If your job involves working in older homes and buildings, you may need to complete a Melbourne asbestos course. OHS.com.au offers convenient face-to-face asbestos training and certification. Enrol in asbestos awareness training in Melbourne today to learn how to identify potentially harmful asbestos products.  Or visit our main Asbestos Awareness Training Course page.

Who Needs to Take Asbestos Training Melbourne?

Asbestos courses in Melbourne are typically completed by individuals in the construction industry. Demolition workers and other construction workers may be exposed to asbestos when working in structures built before the ban on asbestos products.

Asbestos certification is also recommended for home renovators and homeowners completing major home renovations on older properties. During home renovation projects, you may need to avoid handling asbestos-containing material (ACM). Other individuals who may require asbestos awareness training include:

  • Electricians
  • HVAC technicians
  • Maintenance workers
  • Emergency service workers

Along with awareness training, some individuals require asbestos removal training. Licensed asbestos removal work requires an asbestos licence, which is not part of the awareness asbestos course in Melbourne.

Workers who remove asbestos are required to complete class A or class B asbestos removal courses in Melbourne to meet regulatory requirements. A Class A asbestos removal licence is needed for the removal of friable asbestos. A Class B licence is needed for the removal of 10m2 or more of non-friable asbestos.

At OHS.com.au, we also offer training courses for asbestos supervisors and assessors. However, the asbestos awareness course is a prerequisite for completing the asbestos removal courses.

The asbestos assessor course in Melbourne is needed to become a licensed assessor. Licensed asbestos assessors can develop asbestos removal management plans and issue a clearance certificate upon the successful completion of a clearance inspection.

After completing the supervisor course, supervisors can oversee asbestos testing and air monitoring to ensure that asbestos removalists comply with all safety regulations and procedures.

Discover the Importance of Asbestos Safety

Exposure to asbestos fibres poses serious health risks. Inhaling the fibres can cause scarring in the lungs, which may lead to a condition called asbestosis. It is a chronic condition that often causes difficulty breathing, fatigue, and other health complications. Other potential health risks of asbestos exposure include increased risks of lung cancer, mesothelioma, and pleural disease.

The dangers of asbestos were known to the scientific community as early as the 1950s. However, asbestos was widely used for various building materials throughout most of the 20th century. Australia banned most types of asbestos in the 1990s. Yet, many homes built before the ban still contain material made with asbestos.

Asbestos was often used for pipe insulation, cement sheets, vinyl floor tiles, and other building materials. Home renovators, construction workers, and homeowners may inadvertently disturb asbestos-containing materials, releasing fibres into the air.

Asbestos-containing materials (ACM) belong to one of two groups – friable and non-friable ACM. Friable ACM can be crushed by hand, increasing the risk of inhaling asbestos fibres. Non-friable ACM is harder to crush by hand, decreasing the potential health risk.

Common examples of friable asbestos products include pipe lagging (insulation), spray insulation, and insulation boards. Non-friable asbestos products found in homes and buildings include cement sheets and vinyl floor tiles.

What Does the Asbestos Awareness Course in Melbourne Include?

The 10675NAT unit of competency covers the identification of asbestos products and the associated risks of asbestos exposure. The asbestos certificate course is built to help workers avoid handling potentially hazardous material.

The main course topics include:

  • Safety concerns and hazards of asbestos
  • Properties of asbestos-containing material (ACM)
  • Common locations and sources of asbestos
  • Safety procedures for reporting asbestos

Participants must complete white card training before enrolling in asbestos awareness courses. After enrolling in one of our face-to-face courses, students receive all necessary pre-course materials. Successful completion of the course results in a statement of attainment. You must hold on to your statement, as it acts as your asbestos awareness certificate. You must also renew your certificate every two years by completing a refresher course.

Classic and functional
Color: Stainless Mesh/ Blue Dial
High quality and affordable watch. Love the mesh band. It’s a classic, functional everyday look. Easy to adjust, and never runs out of power. Perfect for men who have smaller wrists. Bought for my husbands birthday, and he loves it.

Everything as expected
Color: Stainless Mesh/ Blue Dial
It's a nice watch added to the collection, looks really good on hand, the metallic mesh band is very elegant and also customizable, so it will fit perfectly on your hand. It seems that it had a bit of charge out of the box, but I'll leave it under a direct (under 20cm distance) LED desk lamp to recharge overnight, I'll also leave them under sunlight around the windows whenever possible (at least for the first week or so), it's stated in the online manual that it will need ~45 hours to fully charge on a cloudy day under the sunlight. By the way, it would've been nice to have the manual in the box, but at least it's easy to find the (generic) manual in their website. The fluorescence of the hands and hour dots are really bright and mine had nice bluish color. Of the features, the chronograph works perfectly as expected, the manual also states to set the time 5 minutes ahead of the real time then slowly rewind back to the current time whenever setting the time, for the time keeping to be more accurate because of some gear movements inside. To be honest, it would be great to see Citizen use scratch resistant sapphire instead of some mineral as the face protective layer, as they do for other high-end models, the technology is not new and I think it wouldn't make it that much more expensive, I hope this one will be resistant enough🤞🏻 Overall, this is the first day I received the watch, I'm quite happy with my purchase, it's nice knowing you won't need to replace the battery anytime soon 😛

Great watch for the money
Color: Stainless Mesh/ Blue Dial
Looks great. I swapped out the band for a leather strap. Nice watch, well designed. My other eco drive has been going strong for 15 years or so without a hitch. So I have high expectations for this one.
