Spanish cedar: why it's irreplaceable in a humidor
Spanish cedar is the reference wood for all premium humidors due to three complementary properties. Its hygroscopic cellular structure allows it to absorb excess humidity when the level rises too high, then release it when it drops — acting as a natural buffer in addition to the humidifier.
Its aromatic terpenes gradually diffuse into cigars stored in contact with the wood, enriching their flavor profile over time — this is why a cigar kept for a few weeks in a good cedar humidor reveals itself differently than when fresh out of the box. Finally, its characteristic scent naturally repels the tobacco beetle, the main pest for cigar collections. The Orbis Vault incorporates Spanish cedar throughout its interior structure.
Why gel instead of sponge? Gel bead humidifiers release humidity more slowly and consistently than traditional sponges — fewer peaks, less risk of over-humidification. The Orbis Vault's 3-way system with a slider allows for precise adjustment of the opening based on ambient room conditions.

Capacity 20 to 35 cigars: the range depends on the ring gauge. Robustos (50 ring gauge) or Coronas (42 ring gauge) allow up to 35 to be stored. Gordos (60 ring gauge) or Churchills (178 mm) reduce the capacity to around 20. The included adjustable divider allows compartmentalization by format or origin.
Brands & formats stored in the Orbis Vault
Distilled water only to refill the humidifier and for seasoning. Tap water contains minerals that accumulate in the gel beads and reduce their effectiveness. A dropper is included in the box.
Seasoning recommended upon receipt: refill the humidifier with distilled water, close the empty humidor, and wait 24 to 48 hours for the hygrometer to stabilize between 65% and 72%. New cedar first absorbs humidity before regulating it — without this step, it would draw moisture from your cigars rather than diffusing it.
