Wildlife photographer and autism and wildlife activist, Alfie Bowen, has a personal interest in photographing chimpanzees. His childhood experiences of bullying and isolation due to his autism pushed Alfie to discover this strength in wildlife photography which has since been retold on BBC Earth, in a feature-length documentary and in his upcoming September 2021 book.

In photographing chimpanzees he notes: "I like the emotional side of the chimp and how similar they are to humans. That’s something I try to get in my work, because people never got to know me as a child, they just heard I had autism and ran a mile. I’m trying to do the same with animals, to get people to look deeper than just what they look like. Trying to get the emotional connection in my work is important.”
