Released on February 29, 2000, Two Against Nature marked Steely Dan's first studio album in two decades, following 1980's Gaucho. The long-awaited return from Walter Becker and Donald Fagen became both a critical and commercial triumph, debuting at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and earning widespread acclaim for its meticulous production and sophisticated musicianship. The album swept the 2001 Grammy Awards, winning Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Album, and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for the single "Cousin Dupree."
Recorded over a two-year period with Becker and Fagen's characteristic perfectionism, the album features contributions from a rotating cast of elite session musicians including guitarists Hugh McCracken, Jon Herington, and Wayne Krantz, drummers Ricky Lawson and Keith Carlock, and saxophonist Chris Potter.
