By: Tracy KidderNEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • An “extraordinarily stirring” (The Washington Post) account of one man’s inspiring American journey and of the ordinary people who helped him, from the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Mountains Beyond Mountains
“A tale of unspeakable barbarism and unshakeable strength.”—Time (Ten Best Nonfiction Books of the Year)
“This book is one not to be missed. . . . Deo’s resilience, his struggle to overcome adversity, strikes a chord in all of us. His story reaffirms our hope that one person can make a difference.”—The Seattle Times
Deo arrives in the United States from Burundi in search of a new life. Having survived a civil war and genocide, he lands at JFK airport with two hundred dollars, no English, and no contacts. He ekes out a precarious existence delivering groceries, living in Central Park, and learning English by reading dictionaries in bookstores. Then Deo begins to meet the strangers who will change his life, pointing him eventually in the direction of Columbia University, medical school, and a life devoted to healing.
Providing brilliant testament to the power of will and second chances, Kidder breaks new ground in telling this unforgettable story as he travels with Deo back over a turbulent life in search of meaning and forgiveness—and shows us what it means to be fully human.
A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, Christian Science Monitor, Publishers Weekly

Good quality, good buy.
Size: 300 Count (Pack of 1,8.375 Inch)
I liked these plates more than I thought I would. The plates hold up well under load and don’t soak through like regular less expensive plates. The size is right for most meals and still not too big for just dessert. They worked great in the microwave and were easy to separate from the stack.
These came packed in a box with two stacks that were each wrapped in plastic to keep them clean in shipping and storage.
I will buy these again.

Worth the money
Size: 140 Count (Pack of 1,10 Inch)
Very sturdy material, easy to separate even for a child. The only clean up is when someone bumps into your plate lol. Great price for the quantity.

Not flimsy
Size: 300 Count (Pack of 1,8.375 Inch), Size: 300 Count (Pack of 1,8.375 Inch)
These paper plates are sturdy and hold food well without bending or leaking. I originally thought they were going to be a little bigger than they are, but I still ended up keeping them and using them regularly. They work great for snacks, lighter meals, and everyday use. The quality is good, they’re easy to store, and the large pack is very convenient.
