Moshwani rugs are handwoven tribal rugs crafted by the Moshwani people, a subgroup of the Baloch ethnic group in western Afghanistan. These rugs are known for their unique weaving techniques, striking geometric designs, and a mix of pile and flat-weave (kilim) elements, making them distinct from other Afghan rugs.

Key Features of Moshwani Rugs:

Material & Weaving Style

  • Made from high-quality hand-spun wool
  • Unique combination of pile weave (knotted wool) and flat-weave (kilim) sections, creating a textured, multi-dimensional surface.
  • Often woven using the Turkoman or asymmetrical knot, ensuring durability.
  • Rich, earthy tones dominate Moshwani rugs, including:
  • The colors are achieved using natural vegetable dyes, giving them a warm, organic look.

Design & Patterns

  • Bold geometric motifs
  • Diamond or lozenge shapes
  • Intricate borders with repeating patterns
  • The blend of pile and kilim weaving creates a textured, slightly raised effect, adding depth to the design.
  • Their durability makes them ideal for high-traffic areas like entrances and hallways.

Why Choose a Moshwani Rug?

Unique texture & weaving style – The mix of pile and kilim weave makes them visually and texturally interesting.
Durable & practical – Tightly woven for strength, great for everyday use.
Handcrafted tribal art – Each piece carries the rich tradition and history of the Moshwani and Baloch weavers.
Timeless & versatile – Works well in both traditional and modern interiors.

Very soft and the matching backing is nice
The blanket is great quality with no smells. It’s thick and cozy. We like the matching backing. Unfortunately, I should have measured because this barely covers a queen bed despite the heading product description “queen size”. I still haven’t heard back whether they use harsh chemicals when processing. Overall, it feels great to support companies that use natural products with (hopefully) low to no harmful chemicals.

Works for Sherpa, and heavy rugs
This worked on my 2 Sherpa jackets and a heavy furred rug. I tested it on my old Sherpa jacket that had the furs pretty much flat after years. I used this on it which took about 3 hrs to do and it feels brand new. I was so shocked that I used it on my old rug that had about an inch length in fur. The fur was all tangled so it had little stalks sticking out. After about 6-7 hrs, the rug was straight up rejuvenated felt brand new. I’m was very pleased with this product. Now, the real question is it worth it? I’ll just tell my opinion from my experience and let you decide for yourself. The product itself feels sturdy with a wooden base. It’s around 6 and a half inches so not very big. (This is one of the reasons why the rug too so long.)The metal brushed was surprisingly durable. I was applying a good amount of force when combing my rug and there were no bending. For 14 dollars and some elbow grease, I got two new jackets and a rug. The brush didn’t break so I can just keep using this to maintain. In my books, I got my moneys worth.

It Works!
A small size but fits my hand and really does the job well. I have two sherpa blankets that the fibers are matted down from the dryer (should have air dryed) and this brush glides through the fibers, does require some effort but well worth it as I get instant results of the before and after. So far, brush is intact and handling the job, one larger and one smaller blanket to go and both sides. Very happy with purchase!
