Vintage Chaty Vallauris Sunburst Mirror - 20" / 50cmA vintage 20in 50cm Soleil Sunburst mirror by Chaty Vallauris, France, circa 1950. Featuring a gilded metal frame in the shape of a radiant sun with decorative rope work and a convex mirror plate. Both frame and mirror are in good condition. It's rare to find one with no damage on the fragile metal spikes and this one has fared very well, with only three of the spikes showing a little bend. The mirror retains the original factory gilt paint finish.

Chaty Vallauris was a French design and manufacturing company based in Provence, France during the 1950s and 60s. They produced decorative metal-framed mirrors, with the sunburst style their iconic legacy. The rope detail that borders the mirror plate is a signature design feature of their pieces, as are the elegant 'rays' that extend outwards at all angles.
This is a wonderful piece of iconic Mid-Century design.
