In the mid 1970s, Hohner released what I believe is the best version of the Muff circuit ever made, the Tri Dirty Booster.
There is still a lot of mystery surrounding this pedal. No one seems to know who actually built it for Hohner, what exact circuit it was based on, or why certain changes were made.
Whatever was done to the circuit resulted in something special. The low-end is perfectly balanced and full but never boomy or muddy. The low notes have just a touch of grit that adds the right amount of edge, and the leads bloom with rich harmonics that are sweet, fluid, and incredibly musical.
It has everything I love about the best Muffs, all in one pedal.
