By: John StaufferA LANDMARK SHORT STORY COLLECTION: More than 100 short stories by 51 different 19th-century writers redefine the great American literary form
Incudes both literary masterpieces—including classic stories by Poe, Hawthorne, Twain, James, and Wharton—and new rediscoveries
As much a nineteenth-century American invention as baseball, the cotton gin, and the steamboat, the short story emerged here with a range of innovation and a variety of styles and subjects that has still not been fully appreciated. Diverse, wide-ranging, and unprecedented in its scope, this new two-volume collection gathers more than 100 stories by 51 different writers to track the development of the American short story from Charles Brockden Brown’s fragments and Washington Irving’s sketches to Poe’s gothic tales of horror to Mark Twain’s humorous stories to the Gilded Age masterpieces of Henry James and Edith Wharton.
Among the many unexpected writers in collection are: the antebellum Black writer and physician James McCune Smith, whose sketches in his “Heads of the Colored People” series lampooned the pseudoscientific racism of phrenology ; Lucretia Hale, the author of the feminist fantasy “The Queen of the Red Chessman,” perhaps the greatest one-hit wonder of the mid-nineteenth century; and Fitz-James O’Brien, the author of such unnerving horror stories as “The Lost Room” and “What Was It?,” whose true themes and concerns twenty-first century readers, accustomed to reading gay fiction, will not miss.
From gothic horror to frontier folk tales, dark mysteries and interior pyschological dramas, this unprecedented two-volume story anthology captures a world of literary expression and experimentation that will surprise and delight.

Effortless opening and no sharp edges.
We recently went camping and realized we really needed a reliable opener, and this one was a lifesaver. It’s incredibly easy to use, you just set it on the can, press the button, and it does all the work for you. I love that it leaves a smooth edge and feels sturdy, plus the black finish looks really nice. This has quickly become one of my favorite gadgets for making meal prep much faster, whether at home or on a trip.

So simple to use, I'm amazed
Color: Black
Wonderfully helpful. Description is accurate, shipping was quick. I saw a few poor comments, but I have none so far! The can opener has opened cans of several sizes, from tomato paste to large cans of tomatoes; soup cans to strangely shaped. It's opened 30 or so already without loss of power. It's a little noisy, but about equal to that of a stand up opener. It fits in my drawer, which is less deep than most kitchen drawers. Most of all, it's beyond easy to use for arthritic hands. The ONLY CHALLENGE I have is that it sometimes fails to stop when it should. MANUFACTURER: if you read this and have advice, please share.
At this point, I'd say this is a great value for the money.

Pleased be careful
Color: Black
Please be very careful when using this. After using it 2 times it opened cans just fine. Then it stop opening cans and will make hair like strains of metals and one would think its hair and pull on it thus Cutting your fingers open. That’s what happened to me. Please be careful.

Quit working after 30 days
Color: Black
This can opener worked fine for the first couple of weeks. It stopped working several days ago and even though I had recharged it, it would not turn on. I thought I would give it another try before I threw it away since I was past the refund period so I could not return it. I made 100% sure that it was plugged in securely and it did charge and worked today. Make sure that it is plugged in securely when charging. Hopefully it will continue to work and if not I will update my review.
