Meet the Monnit ALTA Wireless Accelerometer, a rugged tilt sensor engineered for commercial environments where knowing impact, vibration, and inclination matters. This compact device runs on a standard AA battery, enabling easy field deployment without power wiring or complex connectors. When mounted on equipment, doors, conveyors, or structural elements, the ALTA sensor continuously monitors motion and orientation, converting accelerometer measurements into meaningful pitch and roll data. It feeds this information to Monnit’s cloud platform, delivering real-time readings, historical trends, and proactive alerts to your team—so you can protect assets, optimize operations, and respond quickly to changing conditions. Whether you manage a manufacturing floor, a warehouse, a facility’s infrastructure, or a critical piece of machinery, ALTA helps you see what’s moving, how it’s moving, and when a change warrants attention.

  • Wireless, battery-powered simplicity: Designed to operate on AA batteries, the ALTA accelerometer eliminates the need for power wiring or complex installations. This keeps maintenance simple and costs predictable while enabling flexible placement across large facilities or remote locations. A replaceable battery strategy means minimal downtime and a lower total cost of ownership, so you can deploy sensors where they matter most without sacrificing reliability.
  • Precise tilt and orientation data: The device captures accelerometer measurements and translates them into meaningful tilt metrics—pitch and roll. Pitch typically ranges from 0° to 180°, while roll spans -180° to 180°, providing a complete picture of orientation changes. This makes ALTA ideal for monitoring lid angles, conveyor alignment, door position, equipment misalignment, and structural tilts that could signal risk or inefficiency.
  • Configurable sampling intervals for every use case: Activate data collection at a time interval you choose—ranging from frequent, high-resolution sampling for dynamic events to longer intervals for steady-state monitoring. This flexibility helps you balance data granularity with battery life and data storage, ensuring you receive the right insights without unnecessary transmissions.
  • Cloud-connected insights with alarms and dashboards: When paired with Monnit’s cloud platform, ALTA delivers real-time readings to intuitive dashboards, trend analyses, and customizable alerts. Set thresholds for pitch or roll changes, vibration spikes, or activity pauses, and receive notifications by email, SMS, or in-app alerts. Centralized monitoring lets facility managers, maintenance teams, and operators act quickly, coordinate responses, and maintain uptime across multiple sites from a single interface.
  • Rugged, installation-friendly design: Built for commercial settings, the ALTA accelerometer features a compact form factor and simple mounting options that suit machinery, doors, panels, and structural elements. Its robust housing protects sensitive electronics in busy environments, while easy mounting helps you deploy sensors quickly during new builds or retrofits—minimizing downtime and workflows during installation.

  • Power and pair: Power on the device and pair it with a Monnit Gateway or the existing Monnit network according to your account’s configuration. Ensure the gateway has a clear line of sight or suitable routing to your network.
  • Configure sampling and alerts: Through your Monnit account, set the desired sampling interval and tilt/vibration thresholds. Define alert rules to notify your team when unusual movement, misalignment, or tipping is detected.
  • Validate and fine-tune: Verify that readings are flowing to the cloud, check data consistency, and adjust placement or thresholds as needed to optimize coverage and battery life.

Frequently asked questions

  • What does the Monnit ALTA Wireless Accelerometer measure? It measures motion and orientation, providing tilt data in terms of pitch and roll. This enables you to track inclination changes, vibration events, and impacts on equipment or infrastructure.
  • What powers the device? The sensor runs on a standard AA battery, which is replaceable. Battery life depends on sampling frequency, transmission rate, and environmental conditions.
  • How does data reach me? Sensor readings are transmitted wirelessly to a Monnit Gateway and then forwarded to the Monnit cloud platform, where you can view dashboards, access historical trends, and receive alerts on your devices.
  • Do I need an internet connection? A Monnit Gateway with internet access is required to send data to the cloud. Local network connectivity ensures continuous data collection, and cloud access enables remote monitoring and alerting.
  • Can I use this sensor in different environments? Yes. The ALTA accelerometer is designed for commercial settings, including machinery, doors, conveyors, structural elements, and other areas where tilt, movement, or impact data is valuable for safety and efficiency.

It all makes sense now
Format: Kindle
This book covers Ancient Chinese History, Starting from the Settlement at the Yellow River through the Xia, Shang, Zhou, and Qin Dynasties to the Han Dynasty. This should ring a bell for some folks as this is the period around the Yellow River shows the early development of man in this region. Ancient Chinese history is a tapestry of remarkable achievements, cultural developments, and political transitions that unfolded over thousands of years. It all began with the settlement at the Yellow River, where early agricultural communities emerged around 5000 BCE. This period witnessed the gradual transition from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle to settled farming communities, marking the foundation of Chinese civilization. From this fertile ground, the Xia Dynasty rose in the 21st century BCE, establishing the first recorded dynasty in Chinese history. Although little written evidence remains, the Xia period laid the groundwork for future dynasties, fostering advancements in agriculture, irrigation systems, and early forms of government. The subsequent Shang Dynasty (16th–11th century BCE) witnessed great cultural achievements, including the development of a complex writing system and the creation of magnificent bronze artworks. It was during this era that the concept of the Mandate of Heaven emerged, which stated that rulers' legitimacy depended on their ability to govern effectively. Following the fall of the Shang Dynasty, the Zhou Dynasty (1046–256 BCE) emerged and introduced the feudal system, characterized by a decentralized government. This era saw the flourishing of philosophy, with notable thinkers like Confucius and Laozi influencing Chinese thought for centuries to come. The Qin Dynasty (221–206 BCE) unified China under the rule of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, bringing about remarkable political and administrative reforms. It standardized currency, measurements, and writing systems, and constructed the Great Wall of China. Although short-lived, the Qin Dynasty paved the way for the subsequent Han Dynasty. The Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE) was a period of significant cultural and technological advancements. It expanded the empire's territorial reach, established the Silk Road, and embraced Confucianism as the official ideology. The Han Dynasty left a lasting legacy, shaping the Chinese state and society for centuries. Through these pivotal dynasties, Ancient Chinese history witnessed the development of a rich and enduring civilization, with contributions that continue to influence the world today.

Most books or movies center on the Battles and Victories that made him. This book is different in its details of geography and people and pre-historical events.

...there Is much to learn....
Format: Kindle
In spite of the title; it's not until 40% into this book that the subject matter actually gets around to "Alexander the Great'. Oddly, several times, the text uses the phrase "might have said" to signify what someone MIGHT have said. Then there are occasions where the reader is told that someone uses cunning, or brilliant planning, to achieve a goal…but the method or action is not actually explained. Then there are (of necessity?) occasions where the author purely assumes or guesses at circumstances, or actions. The great majority of the book is taken up with detailed descriptions of battles. STILL - there Is much to learn from this glorification of Alexander.
