A highly decorative pair of 18th century Italian Régence style silver leaf architectural corbels, circa 1790s, richly hand carved with dramatic scrolling acanthus leaves and bold molded volute forms. Originally conceived as architectural elements, these sculptural fragments embody the exuberant ornamentation associated with the French Régence style, blending Baroque grandeur with the emerging symmetry of early Louis XV design.
Each corbel features deeply carved acanthus foliage cascading around a central beaded spine, terminating in a pronounced scrolling volute carved with stylized fluting and floral motifs. The carving is wonderfully dimensional, with crisp undercut details that create striking shadow and movement from every angle. Along the sides, carved floral rosettes further enhance the decorative richness of the composition.
The original silver leaf finish has developed an exceptional timeworn patina over the centuries, with soft areas of wear revealing warm undertones beneath the surface.
