The Kaki-Kyuko Selvedge Denim Work Shirt from Studio D’Artisan is a deeply textured workwear piece that highlights traditional Japanese dyeing and fabric development at an exceptional level.

Cut from 13oz original selvedge denim, the fabric is built around Studio D’Artisan’s pursuit of maximum texture. Using the traditional Japanese Kasezome dyeing method, the warp yarns are painstakingly dyed with natural kakishibu—persimmon tannin—giving the fabric a uniquely rich, earthy character. A blend of slub and nep yarns in the warp, paired with No. 5 super slub weft yarns, creates an intensely irregular surface with remarkable depth and ruggedness.

Woven at the limits of the loom’s capability, the denim has a pronounced, raw texture that sets it apart from standard work shirt fabrics. The selvedge ID features a custom pattern inspired by traditional Kakinoha (persimmon leaf) sashiko, tying the fabric directly to centuries of Japanese dyeing heritage.

Designed with classic workwear functionality, the shirt features double chest pockets, black resin buttons, and side gussets with selvedge detailing. A one-wash finish offers comfort while preserving the fabric’s substantial feel.
