ABOUT THE ARTFORM
Mata ni Pachedi means “behind the Mother Goddess” in Gujarati. Pachedi is a religious textile folk art. It is also known as the Kalamkari of Gujarat, given the similarity of technique. It features the Mother Goddess and her stories at the center, the remaining cloth is then filled with images of devotees along with flora and fauna.
WHAT WE LEARN
In this intensive workshop, we learn 10 different forms of goddess or Mata swaroops namely Bahuchar Ma, Khodiyar Ma, Vishat Ma, Vahanvati Ma, Shikotar Ma, Ambe Ma, Durga Ma, Meladi Ma, Kali Ma and Brahmani Ma, understanding their stories, concepts, mounts and relevance.
We create a large pachedi featuring all 10 forms of goddess in a form of an interesting composition. We also learn the concept of making the 'Tree of Life'
