What is DuraVent DuraTech's Typical Installation?

Refer to our Typical Installation drawings to select the appropriate component parts for your installation.

  • DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter must be used when connecting DVL pipe to a Ceiling Support Box or Finishing Collar. When connecting DuraBlack pipe, a DVL pipe to a Ceiling Adapter, DuraBlack Slip Connector, or Snap-Lock Adapter must be used.
  • Wall Thimble must be installed with an appropriate length of chimney pipe for all horizontal through-the-wall installations. To accommodate thicker walls, the telescoping pieces of the Wall Thimble can be separated, and a field-fabricated extension may be installed.
  • Attic Insulation Shield must be used in all installations that pass through an attic, regardless of whether the attic is insulated or not.
  • Firestop Radiation Shield must be used when a chimney passes through a floor or ceiling without a support box.

More Typical Installations:

1. DVL or DuraBlack
2. Celling Support
3. Wall Thimble
4. Chimney Pipe
5. Attic Insulation Shield

Planning Your Installation:

The following recommendations are general guideline to assist in the layout and selection of the chimney components needed for your installation. Always follow Duravent Installation instructions before installing your chimney system., found with the cap or support box.

  • The diameter of the chimney should match the outlet size of the appliance. An improperly sized chimney results in poor draft and excessive creosote formation.
  • Measure the diameter of the appliance flue outlet. Select the chimney and either DVL or DuraBlack connector stovepipe with the same size diameter as the appliance flue outlet. For fireplace installations, refer to the sizing chart in the back of this catalog.
  • Determine if the installation is a through-the-roof installation or a through-the-wall installation. A through-the-wall installation will require additional components (Wall Thimble, Tee/ Cap, Tee Support, and Wall Straps).
  • Install the chimney in the interior of the structure whenever possible. A cold exterior chimney will produce less draft and will generate more creosote.
  • If possible avoid offsets that serve to restrict the natural draft. A straight vertical installation is more efficient and less likely to develop creosote. If an offset is required to avoid rafters or other obstructions, measure the horizontal distance required and the vertical height available. Both 15° and 30° elbows are available. Elbows have a 360° swivel base to allow orientation of elbow direction only. Elbows are fixed at 15° or 30°. Elbows greater than 30° are not allowed in the United States. A maximum of two offsets in a single installation are permitted. Refer to the offset table in the back section of this catalog. At least one Elbow Strap is required for each offset. Elbow Straps ensure adequate support.
  • Determine the minimum chimney height above the roof line. Building codes require a minimum of 3′ above the roof penetration and at least 2′ higher than any portion of a building within 10′. See figure 1. The termination cap is installed above that point. If chimney extends 5′ or more above the roof penetration an extended roof bracket is required. An additional roof bracket is needed every 5′.
  • Measure the roof pitch. For example a 6/12 pitch has a vertical rise of 6″ over a horizontal distance of 12″. Select the appropriate flashing.
  • Determine the total length of chimney and stovepipe required for the installation. To calculate the installed per length of 5″-8″ DuraTech pipe, subtract 1 ¼” per joint. For 10″-24″ diameter, subtract ¾” per joint of pipe. Subtract 1 ¼” per joint of DuraBlack stovepipe. Subtract 1 ½” per joint of DVL stovepipe. Minimum chimney height, at sea level, of straight vertical chimney is 10′ to 15′ above the appliance outlet. Higher elevations, or the use of elbows or a tee, will require approximately 30% to 60% more height to provide for an adequate draft.
  • For a UL approved shroud, see the DuraTech Shrouds Installation Instructions (L157). View online at www.duravent.com, under catalogs and instructions.
  • Be fire safe. Maintain at least 2″ clearance to combustibles. Follow local building codes and have your chimney inspected by a certified professional.

Excellent wrist rest, BUT not for me
I'm rating this wrist rest 5 stars despite the fact that it's not for me. The reason that it is not for me is simple: My palms get very sweaty, and this makes my palms stick to the wrist rest, making it hard to move my hands around. This is an inherent limitation of the fact that it is made out of wood, and drove me to the 17" x 4" x 0.75" foam wrist rest from Grifiti instead. If you don't have sweaty palms, however, this wrist rest is perfect. It is 4 inches deep instead of the typical 3.1 inches, it is the perfect height and tapered just so for maximum comfort, the wood (Golden Oak color) is beautiful, and the engraved logo is tasteful and non-intrusive.

The perfect wrist rest. Stop looking, just buy this one!
Color: Onyx, Size: Tenkeyless/TKL Keyboard Wrist Rest, Color: Onyx, Size: Tenkeyless/TKL Keyboard Wrist Rest
The perfect wrist rest. I used those gel and silicone wrist rests thinking the softer they are the better. Not so. This is solid hardwood and my wrists no longer ache after a long day at the computer. The size I picked is perfect for a TKL keyboard. The angles, height, and design are optimal for a comfortable typing experience. Even 8-10 hours of typing! I love Glorious' products, they come so well packaged and attention to every detail is given. Gosh, its just a wrist rest! No, it is a tool that provides comfortable work experience.

The wood is great.
I used to use a typical padded wrist pad, but am a heavy sweater. Upon reading another review in regards to that matter I decided to take the plunge on this rest. I have been a user of the Model O mouse from Glorious for a while and liked it so I trusted the company's reputation for taking gamers' needs into consideration. After using it for about a week and playing different types of games/working from home on it, I can say that although your sweat might pool during sweaty moments, it's easy to wipe off and doesn't seem to easily absorb into the wood. The wood itself is of a nice quality, I like the oak over the onyx for a more "real wood" look. There was no difference in comfort for me, you'd think being used to a padded wrist this shift would be "hard" on me, but no, I haven't had any problems. It's ergonomics for typing are also good as I notice my WPM and consistency be higher on multiple tests. All-in-all quite satisfied with the purchase, fits the aesthetic, feel, and ergonomics I was looking for.

Very well made, matches width of Keychron Q6 perfectly, great for bigger hands!
This is a nicely finished slab of wood that is an EXACT match for my Keychron Q6 in both width and height. Depthwise, this is 4", so if you got larger hands (as I do), this is a bit better than the silicone Keychron version which I believe is 3.5" or so in depth. The non-stick feet are a nice feature, and the profile is wonderful to type on. Only issue with the item I received is a small nick right below the Glorious emblem on the lower right of the wrist rest - may have been an errant tool mark. However, this doesn't detract in my own opinion, from the well-designed profile and features of this wrist rest and was easily covered with a furniture marking pen. I'm still giving this item 5-stars and getting another one for the office!

Glorious Wooden Palm Rest Durability and Stability in an Elegant Design
Color: Onyx, Size: Mouse Wrist Rest, Color: Onyx, Size: Mouse Wrist Rest
After years of using foam palm rests, I always encountered the same problem: they deformed over time, losing height, ergonomics and, consequently, their usefulness. This is especially critical when you spend between 3 and 8 hours a day at the PC for work, study or gaming, since a bad posture can increase the risk of suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. This is where Glorious' wooden palm rests come in, a solution that eliminates deformations and offers an ideal height for both the mouse version and the TKL (Tenkeyless) version. Positive points • Solid and durable construction: Unlike foam, wood maintains its shape and provides stable support over time. • Elegant and minimalist design: Its finish gives a premium touch to any setup. • Effective non-slip base: The bottom rubbers prevent unwanted movements, providing total stability. • Easy maintenance: Although wood is slightly porous and can retain natural oils or residue from creams and perfumes, cleaning it is easy. Areas for improvement • Less softness than foam: Although still comfortable, wood sacrifices some of the cushioned feel that some prefer. A redesign with a foam strip on top could improve this. • Inconsistent finish between versions: I bought the mouse rest and the TKL at the same time, but noticed that the color tones were different (one blacker than the other). It doesn't affect functionality, but it does affect aesthetics. If you're looking for durability, stability, and a sophisticated design, this is a highly recommended palm rest, especially if you find it on sale. Although it's not as soft as the foam ones, it does its job of providing ergonomic support exceptionally well. An excellent complement for those who spend long hours at the PC and are looking for a sturdier alternative to traditional palm rests.
