Delivering Shimano's renowned performance and reliability at an exceptional value, the Shimano Baitrunner D Spinning Reels have become the industry standard for live bait spinning reels. These reels feature a secondary drag system that is optimized for live bait fisherman who are typically using circle hooks. When engaged, the Baitrunner system will allow a fish to take line with the bail closed until the angler is ready fight the fish through the main drag system with a simple turn of the handle to disengage the baitrunner drag. This is critical to ensure a proper hookset when live bait fishing, and exactly why the Shimano Baitrunner D Spinning Reels have become the go-to for many striped bass, redfish, snook, tarpon and dolphin (mahi mahi) anglers.

A SIZE FOR EVERY LIVE BAIT ANGLER
The Shimano Baitrunner D range of spinning reels covers all anglers from inshore light tackle live bait fisherman, surf anglers, and even offshore bluewater anglers targeting pelagic species.
- BTR4000D: A great size for light tackle inshore bait fishing, the 4000D can put out up to 15lbs of Max Drag and holds nearly 200yds of 20lb braid while only weighing in at 13.5oz.
- BTR6000D: A versatile size for both surf and boat anglers, the 6000D puts out up to 20lbs of Max Drag and holds slightly more than 200yds of 50lb braid. This is a great size for many striped bass applications and can be used as a pitch reel for dolphin.
- BTR8000D: A versatile size for both surf and boat anglers as well, the 8000D puts out up to 20lbs of Max Drag while holding nearly 300yds for 50lb Power Pro braid. This is typically the go-to size for most striped bass anglers. Also makes for a great pitch reel for sailfish and white marlin anglers who come across a stray billfish or dolphin out on the break.
- BTR12000D: The largest model in the lineup, the 12000D puts out up to 25lbs of Max Drag and holds over 500yds of 50lb Power Pro braid making it a great option for heavy duty surf anglers that are using an 11ft or 12ft surf rods to cast bait out over the sandbar.
