Assorted Japanese Koi Carp Cyprinus CarpioKoi fish are a very popular species of carp that have been bred and kept as ornamental fish for hundreds of years. The koi keeping hobby dates back as far as 200BC when the Magoi carp (meaning ‘common carp’) was brought to Japan from China. The Magoi carp was originally bred as a food source, but people quickly started keeping them as pets once skin colour mutations began appearing naturally. It wasn’t until the late 19th century and early 20th century, however, that koi keeping became a popular hobby. Until then, only the richest aristocrats and royalty kept the Magoi carp as ornamental pets rather than eating them.
The koi keeping hobby as we know it started with the Asagi koi which was first recognised as an ornamental carp around 160 years ago. This koi was often kept by the carp farmers due to its interesting patterns and prompted the popularity of the hobby which led to all sorts of people keeping carp fish, not just the upper class. Shortly after the Asagi had become popular, other mutations in the carp began popping up and farmers began to keep more and more different carp fish.
Of course, at this point, the farmers decided to give these fish a different name to differentiate the pet Magoi carp from the Magoi carp for eating. Thus, the ornamental carp were named ‘Nishikigoi’ which literally translates as ‘swimming jewel’ and basically means beautiful fish. Over time, with more and more people joining the hobby, the word was shortened to ‘koi’ which is the commonly used word nowadays.

Great Strong Chew Toy but not too Hard
Color: Red Pulse, Size: Medium
Great strong chew toy. It's very strong and does not tear apart like everything else. At the same time it is not hard plastic like the last brown one I ordered that could break my dog's teeth. My dog is a 2 yr old 14 lb Chi mix with a super strong bite. He tore all the stuffies up and even the nylon toy that was supposed to withstand a lot. This is the one toy that could outsmart him. I play fetch with him and it has a nice weird hop due it's shape so it keeps him interested and surprised. It's a bit heavier than other similar toys and I'm guessing bigger dogs would definitely like it too. I'm very pleased after buying so many others that were easily chewed up or too hard.

Unsafe and absolutely garbage
Color: Yellow Frisbee, Size: Large
If I could give this zero stars, I would. My dog had it for approximately two minutes of playtime, I didn’t even get to throw it, and it already had holes in it. He wasn’t chewing it or playing aggressively. He simply had it folded in half in his mouth and it tore. This toy is not safe for dogs.

Perfect ball for my Chihuahua
Color: Multi Meteor Ball, Size: Small
My dog is a Chihuahua. The small size is perfect for her. She loves chewing on the ball and loves the crackling noise from the material inside. I love that it is strong enough, she cannot tear it apart or is she able to remove the material inside. Perfect for her.

Best toy for our dogs!
Color: Yellow Frisbee, Size: Large
These are great for our labs. They love to fetch and play in the back yard. Loved how sturdy these have been the last few days. The material is tough enough to withstand our boys.
