ABOUT THE ART

In Japanese mythology, Izanami-no-Mikoto (Japanese: 伊弉冉尊 or 伊邪那美命, meaning « she who invites ») is a goddess of both creation and death, as well as the former wife of the god Izanagi-no-Mikoto. She is also referred to as Izanami-no-kami.

ARTIST BIO

My name is SEEL. I was born in 1979. I live and work near Fontainebleau, 70 km away from Paris.  I started drawing, building models… In short, doing all kinds of things with my hands when I was very young. So I was rarely bored as a child.

After graduating in high school, I didn‘t know what to do and since the only thing I was interested in was drawing, well I went on to study art. After a school of Graphic Art, I started freelancing. I worked for a while for Studio 360 with Thibault de Longeville, mainly in the world of music and fashion…

Reading all kinds of comics has shaped my artistic vision quite a bit. But I must say that what most influenced me was the emergence of skate culture in the 90s. This influenced me both in terms of graphics and music. It really slapped me in the face to discover how rich this culture was and how it allowed immense artistic freedom, breaking free from codes and being able to be practiced everywhere, all the time.

Of course, I was seduced by the very underground nature of this culture and its ability to make the city a playground.  Thanks to skateboarding, I discovered graffiti through the hip-hop culture. This was made real during my first trip to the US in 1994. I met inspiring people, we exchanged tapes, we shared our passion for hip-hop music… I felt like I belonged to this world and when you are a teenager, it is exactly what you need, what you are looking for.

Since then, the social being I have become has let myself be carried away by encounters, movements, the evolution of urban cultures, the profusion of art that emanates from social networks. I feed on everything around me, consciously or not!
