Montipora digitata in its blue form is one of the easier, more forgiving SPS, but with that classic branching silhouette that looks great in a collector nano or a big farm system. It grows fast, keeps color under modest lighting, and handles swings better than most Acropora.

Here’s a clear, streamlined guide.

Lighting

Moderate light around 120 to 200 PAR is usually enough to keep the blue tone. Higher light tightens growth and can deepen the color, but blasting it doesn’t improve anything. It’s more forgiving than many montis about spectrum changes.

Flow

Moderate to high flow. Digitata likes its polyps dancing. Consistent movement keeps the branches clean and encourages upward, symmetrical growth. Avoid laminar jets pointed directly at the colony because they can cause the base to erode.

Placement

Mid to upper rockwork. It grows upward like a miniature forest, so give it vertical space. Once it gets going, it can shade whatever sits beneath it.

Water parameters

Pretty tolerant as SPS goes, but stability still matters.

Calcium about 420.
Alkalinity around 8 to 8.6.
Magnesium near 1350.
Nitrate 5 to 15.
Phosphate 0.03 to 0.1.

Digitata often thrives in systems that are slightly “nutrient positive,” meaning you aren’t chasing zeros.

Feeding

It gets most energy from light. Occasional amino acids or light broadcast feeding can bump richness in color, but it grows well without targeted feeding.

Growth behavior

Fast. Branches thicken quickly and form delicate tips. It encrusts the mount before shooting upward. Great for fragging because branches snap cleanly.

Sensitivities

Montipora-eating nudibranchs are the biggest threat. Always dip and inspect new frags. Alk swings can cause burnt tips, but the coral recovers fast once stability returns.

Compatibility

Peaceful. It doesn’t sting or fight, but it can quietly shade slow growers. Works well in mixed reefs and SPS gardens.

Cute fun toy
Style: Squirrel, Style: Squirrel
My pup doesn’t play with toys, she’s food driven but she absolutely loves this. The plush squirrels are just toys, but she goes after them like they’re treats. She chews and tosses them around once she gets one out. They haven’t torn, and it’s been a week so far. The quality of the tree and plush toys are higher than other burrow toys she has. It comes with 4 which is better than the typical 3. She’s small and though it doesn’t seem to be more difficult because the toys are bigger, she’s satisfied after getting only 2 out. Worth the little extra money.

My dogs love this toy!
Style: Rabbit
My small dogs Love this toy. They each bring me bunnies all day long. One bunny already has a little tear in it but easy to stitch. I'll see how long the toy lasts. So far it keeps them happy & busy.

Sturdy, cute and practical.
Style: Squirrel
These are so cute and practical. I have 2 mini schnauzer puppies and they are addicted to this play. It comes with 5 squirrels. They dig and smush into the holes in the tree to get the squirrels out. I throw them around and they play and then I put all the squirrels back in the tree. Again, they go right back to the process of smushing and digging around to get them back out. ALL the squirrels squeak! Excellent item, very sturdy tree and the squirrels can withstand quite a bit of aggressive play. (I've had to sew them a couple times)

Durable and adorable
Style: Turtle
Big dogs need love too. My boy is a Lab/Pyrenees mix and he carries his babies around everywhere. He is so gentle with them. He loves to get them out of their house, and keeps him busy mentally and physically. They are definitely indoor toys, but I would highly recommend these if you have a fur baby that gets a favorite toy and cares for the special toys for a long time. The only down side is the external stuffed “house” rips apart so we are left with the little bunnies, squirrels and turtles without their homes.

Little dogs get overwhelmed
Style: Squirrel
It’s as described but my dog won’t play with it, I think it’s a bit overwhelming for a 5 lb yorkiepoo. She loves the squirrels individually but won’t pull them out of the toy stump. It’s made well and good quality.
