Pan is depicted with the upper body of a man, small horns, goat-like legs and cloven hooves, exuding untamed energy. The Bacchante stands gracefully nude with upswept hair, embodying the rapturous spirit of Dionysian revelry. The two figures are joined at the shank by a pair of sculpted rams' heads, symbols of strength and virility. 

The shoulders feature elegant scrollwork and Boreas, the North Wind, his windswept face emerging from a richly textured ground. The setting is crowned with a large, vibrant green chrysoprase cabochon, its lush hue evoking the forrest, meadows and untamed landscapes that Pan ruled.

Deeply rooted in classical mythology, this ring resonates with the Gilded age fascination with nature, ecstasy, and the human psyche. C1890

About: This ring was created using the lost wax casting method, one of the oldest metal-forming techniques. The jeweler would have first sculpted a detailed wax model, carving the figures, scrollwork, and overall design with precision. The wax model was then encased in a heat-resistant mold and melted away, leaving a cavity for molten gold to flow in, capturing every detail. After casting, the ring was hand-finished with chisels, gravers, and files to refine the details of the figures, facial expressions, and textures to bringing the composition to life.
