PS AUDIO DIRECTSTREAM JR DAC

The PS Audio DirectStream Junior (DSJ) is designed as a concrete response for those seeking a high-end digital-to-analog converter at a more accessible price than the celebrated DirectStream. At its core, the DSJ shares the same architecture: a fully FPGA-based design, specifically the Spartan 6, hand-programmed by designer Ted Smith, which completely avoids the use of traditional commercial DAC chips. This technical choice allows the DSJ to convert every digital signal, regardless of origin or format, into a pure DSD stream, passing through a 10x DSD up-conversion before finally converting to DSD128, delivered through a fully balanced analog output.

The resulting sound is surprisingly analog, with such transparency and naturalness that listening is almost indistinguishable from a reference analog source. Regardless of the file type played—whether a simple MP3, a high-resolution FLAC, or native DSD—the DSJ’s timbral consistency and refinement remain constant, with a clarity that removes the harshness typical of conventional digital playback. The unit effectively eliminates the “coldness” often associated with compressed files or digitized older CDs, offering instead an engaging, spacious listening experience rich in micro-details.

One of the most appreciated features is the native integration of the Ethernet Bridge II module, which allows the DSJ to connect to the home network for streaming music from TIDAL or local libraries, also compatible with Roon. Transitioning from one file to another, even across different resolutions and formats, is instantaneous and smooth, without perceptible interruptions or delays. This is precisely where the DSJ shines: in its ability to treat every source with the same care, delivering high sound quality even with files that originally might not deserve it.

The DSJ also functions as a true digital preamplifier, equipped with RCA and XLR outputs for direct connection to a stereo power amplifier. Volume control is integrated, precise, and lossless, thanks to a tactile feedback knob that replaces the touchscreen display of the larger model. The chassis design is simplified but retains an elegant, well-built industrial aesthetic.

A major strength of the DSJ is its ability to receive software updates over time through free firmware releases from PS Audio. This ensures continuous evolution of the DAC, not only in terms of compatibility with new standards—such as Roon integration—but also with concrete improvements in sound quality, resulting from ongoing optimizations of the FPGA code. This aspect adds value and longevity to a component that, in an ever-evolving digital landscape, manages to stay current with the most advanced technologies.

OK for basic Office chair
Color: Black
Positives:Comfortable chair, decent lumbar support. Negatives: no height adjustment for seat or tilt. Handles spin to sides with the slightest touch. Will try to figure out how to securehandles in place. Period good entry level office chair, should have ordered more of an upgraded chair.

Great daily chair
Color: Black, Color: Black
This is a great chair and very comfortable. I'm hard on fabrics and the material is excellent for me. I didn't think I would like the headrest (because I've never had one), however, I enjoy it's use at times. The wheels roll very easily and the seat height is perfect. The seat is easy to keep clean. I've had this chair for 3 months with daily use and it looks brand new. I would buy this chair again.

Cheaply made but functional
Color: Black
Pros: The headrest is highly adjustable. Even if you're tall you'll likely be able to tilt it so that you can rest your head on it while reclining. The instructions for putting it together are easy to follow. It's perfectly serviceable as a desk chair with no glaring defects. The mesh material keeps your body cool and dry even when sitting in it all day. Cons It's obviously very lightweight and cheaply made. This does make the chair easier to move, but this doesn't really feel like a $180 chair at all. More like a $120 or even $100 chair. The chair back is attached to the chair seat by a plastic bracket. Nearly every desk chair I've had in the past has had their back attached to the bottom with a metal bracket, and even those start to bend out of shape after a year or so. While reclining a good portion of your weight will be resting on this plastic bracket, and I simply cannot see this cheap plastic lasting for very long supporting anyone's body weight over a long period of time. If you buy this chair, make sure to get the warranty. The armrests are closer together than on most chairs, which creates a claustrophobic feeling of being squeezed by them. You get used to it eventually, and you can just put the armrests up if you want to, but a way to adjust the armrest width would have been nice. The lumbar support doesn't really do anything at all. It only presses against my back at the most intense setting, and even then not very much. There is no incremental recline setting. Either you are fully reclined, or sitting fully upright. Luckily the full recline setting is about perfect for me, but for a $180 chair you'd expect a bit more settings here.

Great Chair
Color: Black
Very comfortable chair! I’m a big guy - 6’ 2”, 285 lbs. and it fits me perfectly. The head rest is a nice touch and I appreciate it more than I thought I would. Lumbar support is in just the right position and is adjustable (more support vs. less support). It does adjust up and down but not very much. Was also super simple to put together although I did have to crank on the screws that attach the back of the arm rest to the back of the chair. If you’re looking for a place to plant your butt for 8 hours, this is your chair.
