Viator Snakehead Gudgeon (Giuris viator)
Overview

The Viator Snakehead Gudgeon is a slender, active sleeper goby with a streamlined “snakehead-like” profile and attractive mottled patterning. It is adaptable, hardy, and well-suited to a variety of freshwater and low-end brackish setups.

Origin

Widely distributed across northern Australia, New Guinea, and parts of Southeast Asia. Found in rivers, creeks, billabongs, and estuaries with sandy or silty substrates.

Feeding

Carnivorous but unfussy. Accepts sinking carnivore pellets, high-quality frozen foods (mysis, brine shrimp, bloodworm), chopped prawn, and small live foods. Offer varied, protein-rich meals to maintain colour and condition.

Tank Mates

Generally peaceful and fast enough to coexist with a broad range of species. Suitable companions include rainbowfish, hardy tetras, peaceful cichlids, larger gudgeons, and brackish species (if kept in slightly salty water). Avoid very small fish and shrimp, which may be eaten.

Aggression

Low to moderate. May establish a small territory, especially with similar gobies, but rarely causes serious conflict. Can be kept singly or in a spacious tank with multiple hiding spots.

Experience Level

Beginner to intermediate. Very hardy, adaptable, and tolerant of a range of conditions.

Water Parameters
  • Temperature: 72°F – 86°F (22°C – 30°C)
  • pH: 6.8 – 8.2
  • Hardness: 5 – 20 dGH
  • Salinity: Freshwater to lightly brackish (up to ~1.005 SG)
  • Notes: Prefers open swimming space with some structure such as roots, stones, or plants.

Resilient, adaptable, and attractively patterned, the Viator Snakehead Gudgeon is an excellent choice for hobbyists seeking an active yet peaceful medium-sized predator.

Much much better than the standard sock
Size: X-Large, Color: (001) Black / Black / Castlerock
These socks are superb. Lots of padding in the right places, snug where it should be snug & loose where you don't want it to bind. They are marked with an 'L' for left foot, & 'R' for the right foot (it makes a difference in the fit being perfect. They stay up on your heel & don't slide down

4 lefts vs 2 rights
Size: Medium, Color: (001) Black / Black / Castlerock, Size: Medium, Color: (001) Black / Black / Castlerock
I ordered a set of three. I ended up with four left socks and two right socks lol. Granted it doesn’t matter unless you’re OCD. JEEZ. Love the socks but not the attention to detail the sock company did on matching left/right marked socks.

Hold up to tough wear - definitely recommend
Size: X-Large, Color: (001) Black / Black / Castlerock
These are my teens favorite socks. We've ordered multiple sets. Given that he tends to wear then as slippers I am really impressed with how they hold up. The extra large size is great for bigger feet. They wash well and I didn't notice any shrinkage, fading or pilling. This set is going to college with him.
