The story follows the skeletal Jack Skellington, the "Pumpkin King," the star of Halloween Town's annual festivities. However, weary and bored of the same monotonous Halloween celebrations, Jack wanders through his spooky town until he stumbles upon Christmas Town. Intrigued by this newfound holiday, he resolves to bring scary toys to the children of the human world and take on the role of Santa Claus. Meanwhile, Sally, a patchwork doll stuffed with dead leaves, begins to develop romantic feelings for Jack. Sally was created by Dr. Finklestein, a mad scientist who is secretly in love with her, and for that reason stops her from leaving home and talking to other townsfolk. With the ability to foresee disasters, she fears Jack’s plans will lead to calamity, and since she’s also an amateur toxicologist, she uses her skills to escape captivity. Joining Jack is his loyal ghost-dog, Zero, with a tiny glowing nose.
