Toen Willem Engel op 16 maart 2022 tijdens de Gemeenteraadsverkiezingen op grond van opruiing werd aangehouden en een twee weken durend voorarrest in isolatie in de Penitentiaire Inrichting Rotterdam Hoogvliet moest doorbrengen, was voor de vrijwilligers van Viruswaarheid de maat vol. De diffamering door media, politici en zogenaamde corona-experts ging al lang alle perken te buiten, maar leek nu definitief een operationele arm gevonden te hebben in het Openbaar Ministerie.

Er moest dringend tegengeluid komen en wel in de vorm van een realistisch beeld van wie de Viruswaarheid voormannen Willem Engel en Jeroen Pols nu echt waren en waarvoor zij stonden. Besloten werd een compilatie te maken van biografische anekdotes en beschrijvingen van de rechtszaken en medische ontwarringen, waarmee Viruswaarheid (inmiddels omgedoopt tot VoorWaarheid) de misleidende berichtgeving en het intransparante overheidsbeleid tijdens de coronaperiode te lijf ging.

Dit boek is daarvan niet alleen het resultaat, het is ook een statement dat werd versterkt door de derde aanhouding van Willem Engel op 3 april 2022. Willem Engel en Jeroen Pols mogen het gezicht zijn van VW, maar de organisatie bestaat uit vele mensen – een grote groep doeners en denkers die zich eveneens inzet voor vrijheid en rechtvaardigheid. Daarnaast vertegenwoordigt VW tienduizenden bezorgde burgers. De laster, smaad, aanhoudingen, gevangenneming en financiële blokkades aan het adres van Willem Engel en Jeroen Pols vallen dan ook indirect op ons aller ‘deurmat’. Middels dit boek maken we daartegen bezwaar. Met liefde en geduld.

I was interested in finding out more about how DNS is deployed and operated in practice. The first few chapters in this book deliver very well in this regard. My motivation was to find out more about how a certain type of Internet attack -- the "open DNS resolver attack" -- works. Even though this book was written well before this attack became popular and well known -- and therefore the attack is not mentioned, let alone analyzed -- the book was still quite helpful to me.

One of the best books I've read on DNS and BIND

DNS is one of those concepts that is almost kept in mystery in the tech world. The knowledge seems to be passed by word of mouth, and there doesn't seem to be one good repository to go to as an information source. That is not to say that this book is all inclusive, no book can contain every piece of knowledge you need/desire, especially on such a complex topic. This book however does a phenomenal job of demystifying the subject and giving a good, practical understanding of how DNS and BIND work. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, whether it be the new network/sys admin who has just had complex networking needs dropped on his lap, or even the seasoned network admin who needs a good convenient reference on occasion.
