De hoge kwaliteit van Giacomo Fenecchio

Het landgoed Fenocchio werd opgericht in 1864. Het landgoed van 12 hectare wordt al meer dan vijf generaties lang doorgegeven. Giacomo Fenocchio was verantwoordelijk voor het toevoegen van wijngaardland en focus op export, en vandaag wordt het landgoed gerund door zijn zonen (Claudio, Albino & Alberto) met bijna 80 procent van de productie geëxporteerd. De familie Fenocchio heeft twee van de beroemdste en meest prestigieuze wijngaardgebieden van Barolo, Cannubi en Bussia. De kwaliteit staat altijd voorop en daarom wordt er ook het gehele vinificatie proces nauwkeurig gewerkt. Alleen de allerbeste Nebbiolo druiven worden geselecteerd voor deze Barolo Villero. De Villero wijngaard ligt op een heuvel op ongeveer 300 meter boven zeeniveau. De 65 jaar oude wijnstokken genieten van de klei en kalkhoudende bodems rijk aan ijzer. In het begin van oktober worden de druiven handmatig geoogst. Er volgt een traditionele methode van lange maceratie met natuurlijke fermentatie tot 40 dagen in roesvrijstalen tanks. Hierna rijpt de wijn nog 6 maanden in roestvrijstalen tanks en 30 maanden in Slavonische eikenhouten vaten. Hierna wordt de Barolo Villero gebotteld en rust het nog enkele maanden op de fles.

De warme intense smaken van Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Villero

De kleur is diep granaatrood met robijnrode reflecties, met een helder en levendig aspect. De geur is complex en rijk met fruit, bloemengeuren, kruiden, kreupelhout en pruimen. Het heeft een intense smaak met zoete tannines en een lange afdronk. De Barolo Villero uit zich met zijn karakteristieke stimulerende geur vergezeld van een droge, maar warme en elegante smaak die hij lang vasthoudt.

A familiar story, just with…..less.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
