De melder bestaat uit een magneetcontact (reed) en een magneet. Deze worden parallel aan elkaar aangebracht. Het stroomcircuit van een NC openingsmelder is in rusttoestand gesloten. Wanneer de afstand tussen reed en magneet groter wordt, wordt het stroomcircuit onderbroken en een alarmsignaal gegeven. De melder is beveiligd tegen sabotage.Optimale plaats voor de montage is in het midden van de oprit. Het reedcontact wordt op de grond gemonteerd, de magneet - op een afstand van ca. 20 mm - aan de binnenzijde van de deur. De garage deurcontact voor zware deuren is zeer goed geschikt voor opbouwmontage. Hij is absoluut water- en stofdicht (IP 68).
