Parrotia persica ‘JLPN01’ is de officiële naam van deze boom maar hij staat vooral bekend als Parrotia persica Persian Spire. JLPN01 ‘bekt’ namelijk niet zo lekker. Het is dan ook raadselachtig waarom men deze cultivar zo genoemd heeft, maar het is wat het is. Persian Spire is een cultivar van Perzisch ijzerhout en is ontwikkeld in de VS.

Deze Parrotia-cultivar groeit uit tot een niet al te grote boom. Hij groeit vrij langzaam en ontwikkelt zich sneller in de hoogte dan in de breedte. Daar dankt hij zijn kenmerkende zuilvormige en compacte uiterlijk aan. De eerste blaadjes verschijnen al vrij vroeg in het voorjaar, kleine rode gekartelde blaadjes die na verloop van tijd verkleuren richting groen en geel maar altijd een mooie rode of paarse kartelrand laten zien. Rond augustus begint hij zijn herfstkleuren te ontwikkelen. De bladeren verkleuren dan en laten allerlei tinten rood, oranje en purper zien. Perzisch ijzerhout 'PERSIAN SPIRE' valt dan extra op in je tuin want de meeste andere bomen en struiken zijn dan nog groen. Wat oudere bomen van Perzisch ijzerhout zijn ook in de winter een lust voor het oog. Hun bast bladdert af waardoor er prachtige geelbruine camouflagetekeningen op de stam zichtbaar zijn.

Parrotia persica ‘JLPN01’ etaleert zijn sierwaarde het hele jaar door en is een absolute aanwinst voor elke tuin, groot of klein. Hij gedijt in zowel een licht zure als een licht alkalische bodem, kan tegen droogte en warmte, is uitstekend winterhard, is niet bevattelijk voor plagen of ziekten en vraagt eigenlijk alleen maar een voedselrijke bodem. This amazed us. For perspective, we're talking about a three year old white german shepherd who if he's in the mood, has and can kill a toy within minutes or oddly enough be gentle with furry balls and carry them around as if they are his babies. He hasn't once chewed it or even teared little pieces off. The three settings are great. Sometimes he likes one better than another, then forgets about the others. I'll change it up to one he hasn't seen in a while and the whole game starts over again. He'll throw it up in the air as he does with his others, watch it and try to figure out which way it's going to go. And yes, he will pounce on it if he times it right. The size is perfect, it's heavier than your average ball but, that's what make it sturdy. I have to sneak it away when he isn't paying attention to charge it, otherwise he'll sit, stare and cry if he knows it's on the counter charging. It's a lot of fun for all of us. I'm so happy I bought it...... I say give this ball a chance even if you have a beast with killer instincts. I'm buying another for a friends 2 year old golden retriever granddog. Thank you Cheerble.

Finally a ball my power chewers cannot destroy
