Fagus sylvatica 'Dawyck Gold' , de gele zuilbeuk is een boom en kan een hoogte tot circa 25 meter bereiken. Het heeft een zuilvormige kroon met rechtopstaande takken. De gele zuilbeuk houdt van een standplaats in de zon of halfschaduw. Hij groeit op een goed doorlaten, niet te natte, kalkrijke, humusrijke zand- of leembodem. Deze boom verdraagt een temperatuur van -25 °C . Verharding wordt niet verdragen.
