Neerlands bekendste Nederbietband The Kik brengt op 25 april haar tweede langspeler uit, simpelweg getiteld 2. Het is een album vol verrassingen. In tegenstelling tot de vorige plaat tekent de band vrijwel geheel zelf voor zowel de muziek als de teksten. Een divers album, dat een haast herboren The Kik laat horen. Nog altijd hoor je invloeden van de biet, de sixties, The Beatles en The Kinks, maar op 2 heeft The Kik meer dan eerder oor voor gouden melodieën en spitsvondige teksten. Die niet alleen door gitaren en vocalen worden verzorgd, maar mede door blazers, strijker en zelfs een draaiorgel. The Kik anno 2014 is muzikaler en gevarieerder dan ooit.2 is de opvolger van het in 2012 verschenen Springlevend, met daarop onder andere de hit Simone. De afgelopen twee jaar toerde de band langs clubs en festivals en deed onder meer Lowlands en Parkpop aan. Begin januari begeleidde The Kik hun muzikale held Boudewijn de Groot bij een eenmalig hommage-concert tijdens Noorderslag in Groningen, met medewerking van ondermeer Tim Knol, Janne Schra en The New Cool Collective.
Frontman Dave von Raven over de plaat: “Het opnameproces was een intense periode, niet eerder werkten we tussen de bedrijven door zo lang aan een plaat. Dit is ook voor het eerst dat we echt als band een album hebben gemaakt.” Zanger/gitarist Arjan Spies vult aan: “Dit is zonder twijfel het allerbeste dat ik ooit heb gemaakt.” Producer Frans Hagenaars: “Ik denk dat dit album echt gaat verrassen. Iedere keer als we nu een nummer draaien sta ik zelf ook weer te kijken van wat er allemaal te horen is.” Dave von Raven: “De afgelopen twee jaar zijn terug te horen op dit album. We hebben zo veel mee gemaakt, zo veel gespeeld, zo veel gedaan. Qua teksten plukken we nu bijvoorbeeld ook duidelijk de vruchten van ons De Wereld Draait Door-avontuur. Sinds die uitdaging ben ik me nog bewuster geworden van wat er allemaal mogelijk is met de Nederlandse taal en ook daar hebben we volgens mij een grote stap gemaakt. We zijn er ontzettend blij mee en super trots op, dat meen ik serieus.”

Great for aggressive chewers - Great for clean teeth
I never thought these would stand up to my 60lb pittie puppy's chewing. But they are far and away her favorite toy and are holding up beautifully. One squeaker insert bit the dust -- which is not bad since it gives us one silent one. But otherwise they are holding up superbly to her powerful jaws. We have tried a lot of toys. So far, all the "for aggressive chewers" toys have been torn apart within days if we are lucky -- usually it's minutes. But these balls show little-to-no sign of wear. The squeakers are very loud which she loves can get a bit tiresome. So, as I mentioned, having one silent one is a great option. And she really likes the texture. She loves them so much, we bought a second set and will probably buy a third to have in reserve. (We are realistic and don't expect them to last forever.) All I have to say is "where's spiky ball" and she instantly stops what she is doing and goes on the hunt. A great buy!! (NOTE: It's been almost three months and one is just beginning to show some damage. Given that she plays with them non-stop, they've showed amazing durability. And everyone comments on how clean and beautiful her teeth are. I don't brush them or give her dental treats. So it has to be these balls!!)

Good sturdy ball for aggressive chewer

Nice heavy duty ball that my 7 yr old pitbull can chew on and not destroy it in 2 minutes. Wish that could get 3 for the cost but whatever. Nice bright colors . Good size that he won't choke on it .

Great ball but poor squeaked design

My Rottie loves these balls. The ball lasts a long time even though he plays hard and chews them. My biggest complaint is the squeaker disconnects easily from inside the ball, the glue does not hold! We have bought many of these balls because eventually the area where the squeaker is attached comes away from the ball leaving an open whole that causes the ball to eventually developed a long crack at which point it no longer is able to be thrown nor is is fun for him any longer.

Well made and great fun for our Pittie

My pittie loves these! They are way thicker than others. He has learned how to chew on the spikes. Seems like a good teeth cleaning too. Yes, the squeaker breaks! That is a great thing!! With his active chewing, that sound was driving us crazy after a while.
