De kenmerken van een katoenfilter kunnen als volgt worden samengevat:

  • Permeabiliteit: het filter moet het laagst mogelijke obstakel creëren om de hoogste doorgang van lucht mogelijk te maken
  • Screening: om ervoor te zorgen dat alle vreemde lichamen in de lucht worden verhinderd om binnen te komen
