Vandaag de dag is wijnhuis Montresor een zeer bekende in de wijn regio Veneto, want ze maken de allermooiste wijnen waaronder ook de Amarone. De Familie verliet hun geliefde Frankrijk waar Claude de Montresor zelfs hertog is geweest rond 1600 om hun droom te verwezenlijken. Ze zochten naar de mooiste wijngaarden en die hebben ze gevonden hoor, voor deze wijn liggen ze op de beste hellingen in Valpolicella. Door de jaren heen zijn de wijngaarden verbeterd en heeft men ook geïnvesteerd in moderne wijnmaak technieken zonder afbreuk te doen aan de Italiaanse wijn bouw tradities.

De mooie rijpee Valpolicella Classico

In het wijngebied Valpolicella liggen verschillende wijngaarden om de diversiteit te verhogen aan deze Valpolicella Classico van Montresor. In het noordoogsten van Italie is het klimaat perfect voor de druiven Corvina, Molinara en Rondinella. Veel zonneschijn laat de druiven goed rijpen en de frisse wind draagt bij aan de frisheid. Zo is het leefklimaat perfect maar daar blijft het niet bij want de bodem structuur is eveneens een schatkamer voor deze rode wijnen uit Capitel della Crosara lijn. De oude ranken hebben diepe wortels en kunnen hierdoor gemakkelijk vocht en voedingsstoffen opnemen. Dat proeven we ook terug in deze rode wijn.

Houtlagering voor de Capitel della Crosara Valpolicella

Als de druiven binnen zijn gekomen worden ze zacht geperst en ondergaat deze wijn een hout lagering van wel enkele maanden. Er wordt gebruik gemaakt van zowel Sloveens en Frans eiken waardoor hij zachter en romiger word. Deze Valpolicella Classico heeft een krachtige neus met tonen van amandelen en florale indrukken. In de smaak een schoolvoorbeeld van een top klasse Valpolicella, zachte en romig in de mond met veel zwart fruit. Achter op de tong een beetje kruiden en subtiele tonen van toast en verse gestoofde pruimen.

The fact that there are not more comments on the smell of these pillows has me worried about some of yall. Listen, I LOVE the weight, and the firmness, it’s perfect for that. However, these pillows are RANK. They have a very strong mildew-ish smell that lingers. I took the outer cover off and washed it and let the pillow air out for a few days, the smell is still very strong when you press your face against it, which one does because it is in fact designed for that purpose. It smells so bad. It’s nauseating. I can smell it through two pillowcases and blanket that I threw on top of them hoping an extra layer would trap the smell. I’ll bake them in the Texas sun tomorrow and hope that helps, because otherwise these are the perfect pillows for someone who wants to feel like they are hugging a torso but can’t stand the sound/feel of someone else breathing. I don’t know…4 stars, if the smell goes away I’ll come back. Update: many many days later. Either they don’t really smell anymore or I got use to it. They’ve held their firmness and shape well. I like them.
