Advance Paris staat sinds jaar en dag bekent om haar uitstekend klinkende Bluetooth ontvangers. Ook past Advance regelmatig vacuümbuizen toe in haar producten, zoals in cd-spelers en versterkers. Om een Bluetooth ontvanger met vacuümbuizen te ontwerpen ligt daarom misschien wel voor de hand.

Buizen in de analoge uitgangstrap

Het is de WTX-TUBES geworden. Een ontwerp waar de fameuze Raytheon 5703 vacuumbuisjes in een Class A setup zijn ingezet in de uitgangstrap, net na de d/a converter en voor de analoge uitgang. De buizen zijn gemonteerd in isolerende houders om microfonische effecten te onderdrukken en voor een constante temperatuur te zorgen. De analoge uitgang kan met een RCA/Cinch kabel verbonden worden met een analoge ingang (Line In of AUX) op een versterker, receiver, etc.

Hoogwaardige Dac

Er wordt door Advance geen gebruik gemaakt van de door Qualcomm in de standaard Bluetooth chipset geïntegreerde dac (digitaal/analoog omzetter). Advance maakt een aftakking en zet een zelf gekozen en hoger gekwalificeerde, Cirrus Logic/Wolfson WM8740 (24bit/192kHz), dac in. Ondanks dat Bluetooth 5.0 HD een maximale resolutie heeft van 24 bit/48kHz wordt de WM8740 met zijn hogere resolutie ingezet vanwege zijn mooie klank. De WTX-TUBES heeft ook een optische en coaxiale uitgang om gebruik te kunnen maken van een externe dac.

HD-DETECT, een unieke feature

De WTX-TUBES staat standaard in de Bluetooth Hi-Res 5.0 modus. Te herkennen aan de oplichtende blauwe led in het voorpaneel. Het kan echter voorkomen dat de geluidskwalilteit vermindert, vooral wanneer de signaaloverdracht tussen het zendende apparaat en de WTX-TUBES te zwak of onstabiel is door bijvoorbeeld een iets te grote afstand. In een voorkomend geval kan de HD modus uitgeschakeld worden door de schakelaar op de achterzijden op ‘Off’ te zetten.

Mocht het bronapparaat geen aptX HD aanbieden, dan is dat geen probleem. De WTX-TUBES is downwards compatibel met oudere Bluetooth protocollen.

Great quality for such a low price

Let me be clear: this is a five star item because the quality for a pair of shoes that are cheaper than most meals is superb. This is a fantastic value for the price. The design along the seams is a little frill, and while the color is professional and mature, the designs cut into the seams of the shoes along the toe is a little strange. Without the detail it would have looked cleaner. The cushioning and support far surpassed my expectations; these are very comfortable even over long distances walking. They also have proven durable and held up very well since I ordered them. The size is on point; I am usually a 9.5 and I am in these shoes as well. My feet are slightly wide but there was still plenty of room for my foot and toes. The arch support is good. It has a good sole for traction but the treads are ugly. This is the one part of the shoe that looks like what it costs. They print the brand name directly on the sole which is not desirable to me at all; Essentials are decent quality goods at low prices, but I don’t want to advertise that I am wearing something so cheap. With a couple of design tweaks this could have been sold at three times its price.

Comfortable Oxford style shoes

Comfortable shoes that almost slip on each time. The material is a cotton mesh that is very soft and breathes well. I would not recommend walking in wet grass as the water can get through the mesh and make your feet wet. I normally wear size 10 for sneakers and this was true to size. I have extra room in the toe box. I do think the shoe feels a little narrow, but with the mesh area being stretchy, it does not cause any discomfort. The narrowness of the shoe makes it look more form fitting around my feet. Overall the shoe is comfortable while also giving an impression of high quality foot wear. It looks elegant too. The shoes also seem pretty durable given how much they feel like sneakers. The leather at the tip of the shoe does not scuff easily, which is great! Overall good value too!
