In 1962 werd Azienda Agricola Canalicchio di Sopra opgericht door Primo Pacenti. Het domein bevindt zich in het noordelijk gedeelte van de gemeente Montalcino. Canalicchio bezit 60 ha grond, waarvan 15 ha met wijngaarden is aangeplant en 2 ha met olijven. Reeds 3 generaties wordt er met veel passie en kunde wijn geproduceerd en gebruikt men de meest nieuwe technologieën met respect voor oude tradities en de natuur. De wijnstokken staan aangeplant in twee verschillende zones in Montalcino, te weten: Canalicchio di Sopra en Le Gode di Montosoli. De verschillen in ligging en bodem zorgen voor verschillende types Sangiovese, die in de kelders zorgvuldig samen versmolten worden tot een prachtig resultaat. De wijngaarden liggen gemiddeld 300 meter boven het zeeniveau. De oogst geschiedt volledig manueel. Alcoholische fermentatie in roestvrijstalen vaten onder gecontroleerde temperaturen en dagelijks overpompen. Maceratie op de schil gedurende 15-20 dagen, daarna 12 maanden rijping op vaten van Slavonische eik (50 hl en 25 hl), en Franse eik (750 liter). Deze Rosso di Montalcino wordt geproduceerd alleen van druiven van de jongste wijngaarden. De druiven van de meer dan 10 jaar oude wijngaarden mogen nog enkele jaren langer op eik rijpen om zo de Brunello di Montalcino en hun Riserva te produceren. De jongste wijngaarden hebben overvloediger fruit en zoetere, meer zijdeachtige tannines, zelfs na een jaar op hout: daarom komen zijn het best tot hun recht in de Rosso di Montalcino. Een jonge, fruitige en veelzijdige versie van de sangiovese. Een wijn waarin de sangiovese erin slaagt de frisse eigenschappen te verzoenen met kracht en concentratie zoals ze alleen in Montalcino kunnen. Fantastische structuur, concentratie, zoete tannines en diepte kenmerken deze wijn. De Rosso past goed bij pasta's met vleessauzen, soepen, geroosterde vleesgerechten, rijpe kazen.

Although first published in 1975, one would never guess that just from reading it. The book also provides valuable insights into many subjects other than slavery, including economic and political relations between Virginia and England, early interactions with Native Americans, and changing colonial and British notions of labor and class. Highly recommended on any of these issues.
